As the month of May begins, tournament time for high school baseball teams has emerged on the horizon. With Divisions 2, 3 and 4 beginning regional competition May 23, only a few short weeks of the regular season remain.

Among the strong teams in the area this year, Division 3 will once again be a battle among Coulee Region programs.
Returning state champions Aquinas (10-1) are currently ranked No. 1 in the division in the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Poll, while Bangor (9-0), who the Blugolds defeated in the regional semifinal last year, is ranked No. 3. Add Westby (8-2) to the mix, who moved down to Division 3 this year and ranked No. 10 in the same poll, and the La Crosse area seems guaranteed for some state tournament representation.

However, with all three of these teams are in the same regional, only one can advance to sectionals. Watch the next few weeks of the season unfold for these teams, then be prepared for some stiff competition for that regional title.
