It’s not uncommon for me to yell at the television screen during sporting events if I see something I don’t like. However, I don’t remember anything louder than a squeak coming out of my mouth seeing Milwaukee Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo suffer a season-ending knee injury last week.

Milwaukee manager Ned Yost compared seeing the Brewers’ promising young ace go down to “being punched between the eyes.” I wouldn’t be surprised if Yost has a black and blue mark or two on his forehead from banging it against the wall after seeing the Brewers get swept by the Houston Astros last weekend. Carlos Villanueva and Manny Parra were at best shaky. And closer Eric Gagne’s ninth-inning meltdown Sunday ruined a solid outing by Ben Sheets.
Gallardo’s injury already has had a devastating effect on the Brewers. If they continue to stumble and fall out of the NL Central race by July, their ineptitude will affect my voicebox.
