Published - Friday, May 09, 2008 Couple donates $10M to St. Thomas ST. PAUL — An Edina couple is donating $10 million to the University of St. Thomas for scholarships. It’s the largest single gift for scholarships in the school’s history. Eugene and Mary Frey are donating the money to fund grants to undergraduate students with financial needs. Students of color, from immigrant communities or with physical disabilities are among those who will get priority. Eugene Frey enrolled at St. Thomas in 1948 and later transferred to the University of Minnesota, where he graduated in 1953. When Eugene Frey attended St. Thomas six decades ago, annual tuition was $450. Next year undergraduate tuition will be more than $27,000.
