Eileen Belongea, 42, of the town of Waukesha was driving to work about 4 a.m. Wednesday when the SUV tried hitting her head-on, police said. Belongea tried to speed away, but the SUV rammed into the back of her car.
Police later found the SUV abandoned and the suspect hiding in a tree.
Leonard Litt, 30, of Waukesha, was charged Thursday with first-degree recklessly endangering safety and hit-run driving.
He told police he rammed the car because he thought it was his father’s.
Waukesha County Court Commissioner Martin Binn told Linn in court Thursday that he found that explanation “almost unbelievable.”
He set bail at $20,000. Litt was scheduled for a hearing next Tuesday.
