Racine police find 8 kids in home with no heat, water

RACINE, Wis. — Racine police who raided a half-dozen homes on drug-related suspicions found eight children in one home that had no electricity, heat or running water.

The kids ranged from 10 months to 13 years. Authorities say they were removed from the home by adults other than those detained in the search.

The raids were conducted Thursday about 5:15 a.m by local and federal authorities who had search warrants for drugs and weapons. At least six people were arrested on charges including drug possession and outstanding warrants.

Police Lieutenant Bob Purdy says the searches followed weeks of investigation prompted by complaints from local residents and businesses.
