Bloomer School Board rejects Marine uniform for graduation

.
BLOOMER, Wis. (AP) — A new Marine who's graduating from Bloomer High School this month won't be able to wear his military uniform during the commencement ceremony.

The Bloomer School Board has denied Daniel Ligen's request to wear his Marine uniform. Ligen finished his class work early in order to enlist and will be done with basic training at the San Diego Marine base by graduation on May 31.
The board adopted a policy Monday night that requires a cap and gown be worn for graduation. There was a motion to allow an exception for military personnel, but it wasn't seconded.

One board member says the denial is not an attempt to be unpatriotic, but the cap and gown celebrates education.

" I agree with the schoolboard and besides the kid hasn't even gone through boot camp yet. as for the other idiots on here bashing the armed services you should lock it up. We go out, without complaint, and do things that would make you crap your pants. Try telling your lines to the foriegn fighter as he is about to post you being seperated from your head on the internet, all in the name of Allah of course. "

" If the kid is in such a hurry, why doesn't he wear the suit that he'll be buried in? "

" Rickey; It's because of us "JARHEADS" that you can shoot your dumb mouth off. My suggestion is move to the Russian Republic, Cuba or down with Hugo Chaves. Here is a better idea, every American Legionaire,or Vetran of Foreign Wars should show up at this graduation IN UNIFORM. "
