Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center to host youth events

Mississippi Valley Archae-ology Center will host these four events for children to learn more about archaeology:

Introduction to Archae-ology: Will allow children to participate in hands-on activities similar to those used by archaeologists in the field and learn how people in Wisconsin lived in the past. For children in grades 1 to 4, the class will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28. The cost is $55. Participants should bring a lunch with a drink, snacks and water bottle.
The Experimental Archae-ology Program: An opportunity to learn about tools used

by American Indians and hike through the marsh while exploring how Wisconsin’s first people lived. For children in grades 4 to 6, this event is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 29. Registration is $55. Participants should bring a lunch with a drink, snack and water bottle.

Introduction to Archae-ology: Will give participants the opportunity to learn more about archaeology while working with recovered artifacts. Participants will learn how Native Americans survived using natural resources found in the area.

For children in grades 5 to 9, the class runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 30. Registration is $55. Participants should bring a lunch with a drink, snacks and water bottle.

The Middle School Field Experience: Participants will work with professional archaeologists in the field. Participation in the Introduction to Archaeology for grades 5 to 9 is required. For children in grades 5 to 9, the event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 31, and Aug. 1. The cost is $130. Participants should bring a lunch with a drink, snacks and water bottle, insect repellent and sunscreen.

All events begin in 311 Wimberly Hall at UW-L. Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance. To register or for more information, call (608) 785-8454.
