On the
other hand, we have Dairyland Power, which is going in the opposite direction. It will be going from recycling most of their coal ash to recycling none.
Dumping the ash in a landfill is the original idea its team of experts came up with for disposing of to
ns of their nonrecyclable ash. Dairyland wants to take and bury 55 to
70 acres of productive farmland, organic pastures and farms, people’s homes, businesses and wildlife habitat under mountains of ash. Dumping it in the landfill is an antiquated solution
. Is this moving forward?
If the people in Vernon County don’t step up and stop this from happening, will Dairyland do what they have done in the past? Once a landfill is established, an easily obtained permit would allow other types of waste in the landfi
ll. Overflowing landfills are a national problem, so will Vernon County become the destination for other state’s waste?
Do we want our land destroyed and our water contaminated? I don’t. Will our new local landmark be “The Great Ash Mountains?” It’s up to
us to save this beautiful
area before it’s too late. The people of Vernon County need to force Dairyland to find a better way.
