The Badgers, under fifth-year coach Jim Schuman, are in a four-way tie for 17th place in the 27-team regional at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
The University of Oregon leads the tournament with a 289 team total. The University of Texas is in 10th place at 299, while the Badgers are at 304, only five shots out of contention with two rounds to play.
The lowest 10 teams advance to the NCAA Championships after today’s round and Saturday’s final 18 holes in the 54-hole tournament.
Oregon’s Joey Benedetti leads all players with a dazzling 3-under 69. However, Wisconsin’s Dan Woltman isn’t far behind. Woltman paced the Badgers with a 71 on Thursday, good enough for a share of third place.
Wisconsin’s Tyler Obermueller and Danny Zimmerman each carded 74. Senior co-captain Jeff Kaiser of Onalaska, Wis., managed 85, while teammate Jordan Elsen posted 91. However, Elsen’s round was tossed out as only the lowest four individual scores are counted for each team each day.
