Anchor stolen from outside naval station

.
La Crosse police are looking for thieves with some serious muscle power.

The 6-foot-tall, 2,000-pound gray-blue anchor mounted outside the Naval Reservist Station at 2226 Green Bay St. was reported stolen Saturday by Tom Sweeney, chairman of the Naval Reservist Oversight Committee, which owns the anchor, according to police reports.
It was believed to have been stolen sometime between Dec. 31, 2007, and Thursday.

Neighbors reported they had not noticed the anchor was missing.

" The Navy no longer has possession of this Building, the wonderful City of LaCrosse does. The Naval Reserve Training Center was on the BRAC list and was turned over by the Navy to the City of LaCrosse on December 31, 2007. Funny, that's the last time anyone knew it was there. Way to go, City of LaCrosse! "

" Can we keep an eye on the cannon in Riverside Park? I think its bronze or copper... Someone will nab that sooner or later. I'm guessing the anchor was made of steel? Or something else? Folks, as the economy sours even more and gas climbs past $5/gallon, meat prices skyrocket and jobs vanish, theft/crime will become a lot more prevalent. I'd consider arming yourself with your government welfare check/i mean stimulus check. "

" Can you possibly be referring to the US Naval Reserve Training Center?
Reservists who are members of the Navy Reserve train at a Reserve Training Center. "

" The anchor .... wasn't anchored down? lmao

OH, the jokes possible are just endless here!

Who put Tommy in charge anyway ... was just a matter of time. "

" Soooo, where did the torpedo go that has been there forever?

Wonder which good ol boy has that hanging from the rafters in his garage.

This city has no clue about keeping memories in place for people, knock it down, rebuild it, sell it, condemn it, close it, buy it.

This is not good for the citys rep. ... no wonder companies bypass us. "

LOL!

He's a joke that wouldn't know what integrity is if he just spent 6 months in school taking "integrity 101".

Never use that traveling auto service,,, well, the new one is reputable, but the one with a persons name in it holds just as much integrity (shoddy workmanship!) "

" how in the hell do you not notice a 2,000 pound anchor missing for 5 months???? "

" That Panther Jet was last seen about 25 or more years ago at the Airport, next to the old Air Force Reserve Building, which once was the Caretakers's shack when that Area was a golf course (before WWII). (The veteran's clubhouse still up there was the golf clubhouse).

How do I know(?) - I used to know members of the family which owned that property, before the City acquired it.

Obviously, the theft was not committed by "Anchor-Clankers" (slang for persons enlisted in the Navy, often uttered by members of other services). "

" Yep, those La Crosse city officials are doing a heck of a job, aren't they? The torpedo is missing, too! And I'll bet nobody knows what happened to the Grumman Panther jet that disappeared years ago. "

" So this ting could be missing for over five months? It has probably long since been sold for scrap metal. "
