Estelle Marie (Tanke) Glasbrenner
POWELL, Ohio/LA CROSSE — Estelle Marie (Tanke) Glasbrenner, 80, of Powell and formerly of La Crosse died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008.

She was born July 21, 1927, in La Crosse, the daughter of the late Willard and Eunice Tanke Sr., and graduated from La Crosse Central High School.

After relocating to the Marshfield, Wis., area, she worked at McCains Department Store and Figis for many years. Upon retiring, she and her husband lived in Seagrove Beach, Fla., for 14 years before relocating to Powell.

In addition to her loving husband, Donald Glasbrenner of Powell, she is further survived by her children, Mark (Kathryn) Glasbrenner of Worthington, Ohio, and Donnice (Mike) Olsen of Madison, Wis.; grandchildren, Erica Olsen of Urbana, Ill., Kristen Olsen of Boulder, Colo., and Christen (Jason) Holton of Worthington; great-granddaughter, Audrey Marie Holton of Worthington; brother, D. Keith (Ruby) Tanke of Brookfield, Wis.; sister, Judy (Jerry) Vohaska of Sarona, Wis.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Willard “Turtle” (Carol) Tanke Jr.

A graveside committal service will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Woodlawn Cemetery in La Crosse, with Pastor Joan Sulser officiating, followed by a remembrance gathering from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse.

David Nicholai McGrath

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — David Nicholai McGrath, 64, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at his home in Eau Claire.

David was born Jan. 14, 1944, to James and Violet McGrath. He and his brother, James McGrath, were raised in Eau Claire.

David married Yvonne Aylesworth on Oct. 21, 1972, at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. They welcomed their son, James on Sept. 12, 1974, their son, Daniel on July 24, 1977, and their daughter, Melissa on June 9, 1982. David began working for HILTI in 1974 and was dedicated to his job for the following 33 years.

David loved his family and friends. He believed in the honor of working hard and following through on what you say. He also firmly believed in the strength of love and the importance of enjoying life. He often said that HILTI was his work, golf was his pastime and his family was his passion. He will be especially remembered for his comforting, caring and fun-loving nature. David was many things to many people, a devoted husband, a loving father, a supportive brother, a fun grandfather, a joke-playing uncle and an inclusive brother- and father-in-law. He will be dearly missed. His family and friends will always celebrate David’s life and remember how he enriched each of theirs.

David is survived by his wife, Yvonne McGrath; his children, James (Heather) McGrath, Daniel (Atty) McGrath, and Melissa (Jason) Moser; his brother, James McGrath; and his grandchildren, Grace, Gabrielle, Gavin and William.

His father, James, in 1972 and his mother, Violet McGrath, in 1994 preceded him in death.

A memorial service for David will be Tuesday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire, with Pastor John Kerr officiating. Friends and family may visit at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, on Monday, May 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. and again from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in David’s name to the JCPenney Relay for Life team, P.O. Box 1391, Eau Claire, WI 54702.

Barbara Roberts Munson

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Barbara Roberts Munson, 79, of Issaquah, a lifelong follower of Christ, stepped into the Lord’s presence on May 14, 2008, in Issaquah.

Barbara was born in Madison on Nov. 16, 1928, the daughter of the late Glenn D. and Melva F. Roberts. She graduated from West High School and the University of Wisconsin. He earned a master’s degree from Harvard University and an Ed.D. degree from the University of Portland.

She was a teacher and administrator at undergraduate and graduate levels. Her specialties included character education, elementary and secondary teaching methods, and social and cultural foundations. She taught numerous classes to in-service teachers, including those at the University of Notre Dame and the Kenan Ethics Program at Duke University.

Barbara was married to John B. Munson for 57 years. She and John first accepted Christ in their early 30s and have faithfully and joyfully served Him for 50 years. One of her favorite Bible verses was John 1:12, “But as many as received Him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name.”

In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Kari (Perry) Hand of Fullerton, Calif., Kristi (Tom) Miller of Plano, Texas, and Lauri (Dale) DeWhitt of Issaquah; her brother, Owen (Susan) Roberts of Belleair, Fla., 10 grandchildren, Mandy, Chelsea, Tiffany Andrea, Jon, Steve, Leaza, Scott, Daniel and Jenny; and three great-grandchildren, Amalie, Juliet and Skylynn.

A memorial service was held at Crossroads Bible Church. The family suggests remembrances to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission (www.ugm.org), The Jesus Film Project (www.jesusfilm.org), Samaritan’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org) or Gospel for Asia (www.gfa.org).

A joint memorial service for Nancy E. Bagan and Kevin F. Bagan of Topeka, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. June 6 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in La Crosse. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to services June 6 at the church. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse.

Carlyn Jerome Doely

SPRING GROVE, Minn. — Carlyn Jerome Doely, 84, of Spring Grove died Friday, May 23, 2008, at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Burial will be in the Trinity Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove and 9:30 a.m. to services Tuesday at the church.

Donna Mae McVey

BRSTOL, Tenn. — Donna Mae McVey, 74, of Bristol passed away Friday, May 23, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital.

She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, a member of various church related activities and a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. McVey was a member of the Bristol Senior Choir and the Happy Hearts.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Nurse Corps. She was a retired registered nurse of Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center at the New Life Birthing Center after 25 years.

Mrs. McVey was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence F. and J. Frieda Kleinbacn Witt; and a brother, Gordon Witt.

Survivors include one daughter, Tracey Childress of Bristol; one son, Clarence R. McVey of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Ruth A. Arnett of Altura, Minn.; two brothers, Norman C. Witt of Spring Valley, Minn., and Marvin A. Witt of La Crescent, Minn.; three grandchildren, Erica Childress, Brittany Jones and Tessa Childress; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, May 26, at Akard Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Gott officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, in Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn., with military rites by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 26, prior to the service at Akard Funeral Home.

Barbara Ella Monick

TOMAH, Wis. — Barbara Ella Monick, 95, of Tomah and formerly of Clifton, Wis., died Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at the Lodge of Montgomery in Cincinnati. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clifton. Burial will be in Clifton Cemetery, town of Clifton. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home in Tomah and 9:30 a.m. to services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church or a charity of one’s choice.

William ‘Boober’ J. Parizek

William “Boober” J. Parizek, 88, of La Crosse died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Bethany-St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to services Wednesday, both at the funeral home. A complete obituary will follow.

Vivian M. Seiler

ONALASKA, Wis. — Vivian M. Seiler, 90, of Onalaska died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Onalaska Care Center in Onalaska. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Onalaska. Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Homes of La Crosse are assisting the family with arrangements. A complete obituary will follow.

David C. Torgerud

ONALASKA, Wis. — David C. Torgerud, 65, of Onalaska was called to his eternal rest on Thursday May 22, 2008, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in La Crosse on Oct. 13, 1942, to Roy and Gladys (Thompson) Torgerud. David graduated from Central High School in 1960. On June 29, 1963, David married the love of his life, Jean Marie Schnell. He spent his entire career as a dental technician; first as apprentice, then partner, business owner and finally retiring from the VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wis.

He was very proud of his family and loved them dearly and will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

David is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jean; nine children, Tamie (Paul) Jastrow of Eau Claire, Wis., Tony (Terri) Torgerud of Onalaska, Teresa (Dave) Larsen of La Crosse, Mark (Shanon) Torgerud of La Crosse, Cindy (Keith) Lauth of Beaver Dam, Wis., Keith (Angie) Torgerud of Holmen, Wis., Kari (Corey) Mathison of Holmen, Eric Torgerud of Onalaska, and Erin Torgerud of Onalaska; his grandchildren, the joys of his life, A.J. (Windy), Zach, Michael, Keith, Cody, Tyler, Teagan, Rhianna, Lynnae, Sienna, Emily, Parker, Cahtayah, Justin, Jadyn and two on the way. He is further survived by four brothers, LeRoy “Lucky” (Nira) of Westby, Wis., Donald Torgerud of La Crosse, Jerry Torgerud of Webster, Wis., and Billy (Pat) Torgerud of Forest Lake, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Schnell of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Carole Torgerud of La Crosse; brother-in-law, Robert DeBruin of Roseville, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy DeBruin; two brothers, Bob and Dick Torgerud; and infant grandson, Jacob Ryan Torgerud.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 West Ave. S., La Crosse. The Rev. Roger Sachs will officiate. Entombment will follow in Garden of Peace Mausoleum at the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, rural La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 907 Sand Lake Road, Onalaska, and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Charles D. Wallace

Charles D. Wallace, 93, of La Crosse died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse. Private funeral services will be held, with entombment to be held at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery in rural La Crosse. Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Homes of La Crosse are assisting the family with arrangements.

Elliot Whitford-Hawkins

Elliot Whitford-Hawkins died Friday, May 16, 2008, at his home in La Crosse. He was held and comforted by those who loved him virtually every minute of his life.

Elliot was born at 11:07 p.m. May 13, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse to parents Stephanie and Steve, brother Caleb and sister Anna. Born with a congenital nervous system abnormality, Elliot struggled to breathe, swallow and move from the start. His life, though short, was filled with meaning. Those who were fortunate enough to hold and care for him will forever remember the peace he reached with a simple touch and his beautifully soft dark hair.

Elliot was the grandson of William and Vicki Whitford of Darlington, Wis., Julia and John Simonson of Mineral Point, Wis., and James and Sheri Hawkins of Portland, Wis.

A private memorial will be held today, May 25, at the home of Elliot’s parents. Elliot was fortunate to be able to help another child through organ donation.
