Houston woman dies in house fire

HOUSTON, Minn. — An 80-year-old Houston woman died and her son was treated for injuries in a fire at their home Saturday night in rural Houston.

Fire claimed the life of Dorothy Elsie Sanders, 9360 County Road 4. Her son, Robert Scott Sanders, 51, was injured and hospitalized at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis. Hospital officials said they could not release a condition report Sunday night.

The fire was reported at 6:20 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found the home in engulfed in flames, according to the Houston County Sheriff’s Department. The Minnesota State Marshal’s Office and the Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s office in Hastings Minn., are investigating the fire. No foul play is expected, and the cause of the fire is unknown.

Fire departments from Houston, Caledonia, Spring Grove, Hokah and La Crescent, and Houston County sheriff’s deputies and the Houston Ambulance responded to the fire.
