MVL commissioner Erickson to officiate in San Marino cup
Terry Erickson has been selected as one of 12 international basketball referees to officiate in the San Marino Basketball cup near Milan, Italy next week.
Erickson, the commissioner of the Mississippi Valley League and longtime Coulee Region official, will work two games each day from Tuesday through Friday in a 16-team tournament for players age 17-and-younger.
“There are no other officials from this country,” Erickson said Friday. “They asked for resumes, and they were looking for experience in international play, high school, college and all-star games.”
Erickson had all of that covered and added international coaching experience to his application. Erickson coached a baseball team that won the Youth Friendship Games in Holland five years ago.
“I’m a little anxious about some things, and there will be some different rules,” Erickson said. “But it’s also a chance to watch some tremendous athletes.”
