Is that George Clooney? No truth to celebrity sightings at S&S event

.
The rumors flew and grew as the big S&S Cycle event went on:

“Tonight Show” host Jay Leno closed down Hooters downtown Saturday night.
Rap-rocker Kid Rock gave a surprise performance at Bucky’s Burger Barn.

Actress Sandra Bullock, unhappy with her accommodations at a local hotel, stayed at S&S President Brett Smith’s house instead.

Colorful — but not true.

Smith said Monday most of the big names being bantered around were no-shows.

Leno wanted to attend the event but had other commitments, Smith said.

And if George Clooney, David Letterman or Matthew McConaughey were here, they didn’t tell any of Smith’s

people.

The event did draw a few people motorcycle enthusiasts would recognize, including Jesse James — Bullock’s husband and the West Coast Choppers guy formerly on the cable show “Monster Garage” — along with Paul Teutul Sr. and Paul Teutul Jr., from the cable reality series “American Chopper.”

While the event failed to draw many A-list celebrities, it did attract many of the industry’s top names, Smith said.

“Of the people in our industry, all the big wigs and all the big names were here,” Smith said. “Let’s just say there wasn’t anybody who didn’t make it who didn’t have a good excuse.”

" Some of the rumors going around at my work:

Jay Leno rented the entire top floor of the Raddison. (now, apparently the new rumor is that he COULDNT go because he had shows to do??)

Sue Kolves shut down so that Sandra Bullock could go to it.

George Clooney was going to come on Saturday.

David Letterman was coming as well.

Kid Rock was coming to see the show.

But the weekend was great, had a lot of fun, and met a lot of people. I loved the bikes, the crowds, and everything that went along with it. I look forward to something similar to this happening again! "

" The fact is, there were more celebrities here than most people were aware of. I am a waiter at one of La Crosse's premiere restaurants. I won't say which one, but it starts with "Burger" and ends with "King". George Clooney was in town researching for a role as an engineer that designs roads on the side of hills. He stopped in and had a Whopper. Jay Leno stopped in and had a Chicken Sandwich with light mayo. He was looking for new jokes since Bush is almost out of office, so he wanted to visit with Mayor Johnsrud. "

" I got a chuckle everytime I heard of a celebrity rumor, heck I hear Guns and Roses was even in town and may do a surprise performance sat night. I heard the Clooney, Bullock, Leno, Kid Rock Rumors......I know there were more just cannot remember them all. As het1996 stated, maybe they are with the serial killer, it was probably the serial killer believers that made up the rumors.........they all have very good imaginations. "

" I had a great time looking at all of the bikes! I had never seen so many in one place; it was amazing. I voted on the ppls choice contest, the one I voted for didn't win. I bought a ring down at Silver Hideout's jewelry stand.

But, if they do this again, I hope they get a different band for Saturday night. Flashback was ok, Jackyl was horrible. We left after the second song. I was only down there Sat night, so I did not get a chance to see the other bands.

*giggles @ Mack* wow..are you single? *smiles* "

" The Fedex story doesn't surprise me. They have some of the sloppiest drivers while in the past they used to have some of the best. (That was probably me they mistook for George Clooney). "

" Darwin... saw that rumor with my own eyes and it's just like soccermom21 said... the fedex truck drove through and the waves knocked over a lot of bikes. "

soccermom21 wrote on Jul 1, 2008 8:18 AM:

" Well Darwin, the story about the fedex truck is partly true. I work right down where it happened and actually I saw it all happen. The fedex truck was driving down the street, no mind you it is flooded because the manhole covers blow off down here when it rains that hard. As he was driving by he caused a wave that pushed against the bikes, and they did indeed tip over and were under water. As for the amount of damage that I do not know.. "

" Whenever I heard, "My brother said he talked to ___ and they said they saw____" I get a chuckle.

My favorite rumor from the weekend: A Fedex truck crashed dozens of bikes on 2nd street causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. "
