We Say: Caitlin Lyga, La Crosse Tribune sportswriter, on the elimination of the MVC wrestling tournament

It’s been a good run not only for the MVC-Coulee conferences’ joint wrestling tournament, but for the MVC tournament alone, and it will be a shame not to see it next season.

While the elimination ultimately may be the best thing for the wrestlers and teams themselves, as it either presents another opportunity to travel in search of new opponents or a week off before tournament time, it was arguably one of the most exciting weekends for Coulee Region wrestling fans.

The former MVC-Coulee tournament’s unique ability to bring together strictly-Coulee Region teams and produce an area champion in each weight class was something I highly anticipated each season, as many of those season-long rivalries came to a climax at the final tournament of the regular season.
