The department is one of 16 accredited by WILEAG among the 650 in the state. It was the first municipal law enforcement agency to achieve the accredited status in 1998 and was re-accredited in 2004.
Re-accreditation means that the department has demonstrated its voluntary commitment to law enforcement excellence by its compliance with 233 standards deemed essential to the protection of the life, health, safety and rights of the people it serves, according to the department.
“The WILEAG accreditation status assures the citizens of La Crosse that their police department is committed to the highest level of professional police service for the La Crosse community,” Police Chief Ed Kondracki said.
