Robin G. Haldeman Jenkins

SPARTA, Wis. — Robin G. Haldeman Jenkins, 39, of Sparta died Monday, June 30, 2008, at home. She was born Aug. 15, 1968, in Tomah, Wis., to Robert R. and Clara M. (Devine) Haldeman.

Our loss in this world is Heaven’s gain: Robin was amazing and inspiring to everyone who knew her and to many who never had the honor.

She was an involved, wonderful, nurturing mother and grandmother to her three beautiful children and grandson. Robin also taught us what it is to be a loving wife, caring daughter, incredible sister, best friend, cool aunt and faithful Christian. She was truly a ray of sunshine and will live on in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew Jenkins of Sparta; Becca and Macy Jenkins at home; Josh Haldeman (Melissa Weisensel) of Sparta; grandson, Gavin Haldeman of Sparta; her parents, Bob and Clara Haldeman of Sparta; two sisters, Lori (Mark) Haldeman-Mossholder of Tomah, Wis., and Tammy Haldeman of Sparta; a nephew, Luke Berckman; a niece, Jayda Berckman; and a special friend, Kris Tock of Sparta.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ray and Lorinda Haldeman; and maternal grandparents, Thoburn and Frieda Devine.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, with the Rev. Jeffrey Wm. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sparta. Friends may call at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, today from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 1 p.m. until time of services. Online condolences may be offered at www.lanham-miller.com.

Inez Mae Hogden

ETTRICK, Wis. — Inez Mae Hogden, 90, of Ettrick died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville, Wis.

Inez was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Trempealeau, Wis., to Irwin and Mae (Sacia) Hare. On June 22, 1940, she married Arthur G. Hogden at French Creek, rural Ettrick. He died June 25, 1996.

She received her teaching certificate from Gale College in 1937 and taught in one-room rural schools of Trempealeau County. Later she and Art owned and operated Art’s Appliance Store in Galesville where she will be remembered for a gift shop she ran for 32 years. She was a member of French Creek Lutheran Church, rural Ettrick and Living Hope Lutheran Church, Ettrick.

Survivors are a son, John A. (Kari) Hogden of Taylor, Wis.; a daughter, Karolee M. (Don) Sowle of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Halley Lund, Eric Hogden, Aron Hogden, Heidi Hogden, Mandy Hoffman, Marcy Van Fossen and Brad Church; and eight great-grandchildren, Aurora, Crescent, Holland, Benjamen, Jacob, Mitchell, Chase and Phin.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Church; three sisters, Arlene Gibbs, Delores Rall and Melva Jackman; and a brother, Alwin Hare.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at French Creek Lutheran Church, rural Ettrick, with the Revs. Kristin Wendland and Roger Grow officiating. Burial will be at Pine Cliff Cemetery in Galesville. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 11 a.m. until service time.

Iris V. Anderson

Iris V. Anderson, 92, of La Crosse died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at her home.

She was born July 19, 1915, in Maiden Rock, Wis., to Dean and Emily (Nordin) Hall. She graduated from Logan High School in 1934. She married Arnold Anderson on Nov. 29, 1934, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 2006. They were the first couple married at Bethany Evangelical Free Church. Iris was also a charter member of the church.

She is survived by her two sons, Gilbert (Verdelle) Anderson of Peneita, Texas, and Brent (Cindy) Anderson of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Juanita Cole of La Crosse, two brothers, Charles (Connie) Hall and Dean Hall, both of La Crosse; a sister-in-law, Elaine Hall of La Crosse; five grandsons, Randy, Greg, Bill (Anitna), Chris and Michael; and five great-grandchildren, Phillip, Michael, Ashley, Hiedie and Haley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two sisters, Eunice Johnson and Inez Chapman.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethany Evangelical Free Church, 3936 Hwy. B. The Rev. Ray Miller will officiate and burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, rural La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 809 Gillette St., La Crosse, and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Iris would like to thank the Encourager Sunday School class at Bethany Free; the church body for the food, cards, flowers, encouragement and visits; and Evelyn and Eleanor for their Sunday “sing-alongs.” She would also like to give a special thanks to her neighbors, Jerry, Mattie and Rob Shue and to her special friend, Dee Johnson, for everything they have done.

Esther J. Roesler

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — Esther J. Roesler, 85, of Sun Prairie died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg, Wis.

She was born in La Crosse on Sept. 17, 1922, the daughter of Seatse and Carrie (Vanderploeg) Stapert. She was united in marriage to Wilbert F. Roesler on Jan. 19, 1943, in Charleston, S.C.

While living in the Baraboo, Wis., area, Esther worked at Central Wisconsin Center in Madison as a nurse’s assistant from 1963 until 1981. She enjoyed horses, knitting, crocheting, sewing, card playing and traveling. She and Wilbert traveled to many places, visiting friends and family.

She always made many friends wherever she was. She was a very caring and fun lady who will be missed by all. She always taught that it is important to forgive and forget and lived by that. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie.

Esther is survived by her husband, Wilbert of Sun Prairie; son, Frank (Diane) Roesler and their children, Mary (Lee) Moss and William (Jamie) Roesler; great grandchildren, Cassandra Flores, Dominique Moss and Shelby and Willow Roesler; son, Jerry (Pam) Roesler and their children, Jonathan and Carrie; great-grandchildren, Mathew Roesler and Deja Bass; daughter, Gina (Tom) Senger and their children, Aryn, Amanda and Nehemiah; her siblings, Theresa Kenyon, Adeline Krumm, Delia Raffelson, Margie Alens, LaVera Erickson, John Stapert and Wayne Stapert. Esther was preceded in death by siblings, Jacob Stapert, Elmer Stapert, Ethel Gongeir and Caroline Evenson.

Funeral services will be at noon Monday, July 7, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. The Rev. Ted Dewald will officiate. Burial will take place in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, rural La Crosse. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until time of services.

Robert W. Hayes

VIROQUA, Wis. — Robert W. Hayes, 93, of Viroqua passed away Sunday June 29, 2008, at Vernon Manor in Viroqua.

Robert was born on Oct. 5, 1914, to his parents, Walter and Nelia (Dodge) Hayes.

Robert is survived by many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Nelia Hayes; one brother, Walter Hayes; and one sister, Helen Brault.

Bruce A. Ackerson Sr.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Bruce A. Ackerson Sr., 82, of Hollywood died June 27, 2008, at a hospital in Hollywood.

He is survived by his loving wife, best friend and love of his life, Jean; and brother, David and his wife, Fran. He is also survived by sons, Bud, Chip, and Michael; daughters, Pam, Laura, Sandy, Sue, Janie, Meighan, Penny and Jodi; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

Bruce, a 1951 West Point graduate, war veteran, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather will be missed but will continue to live in our hearts forever. He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby, and a daughter, Tina.

CASHTON, Wis. — James Urbanek, 72, of rural Cashton died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley, Wis.

ARCADIA, Wis. — Edith W. Dettloff, 92, of Arcadia died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem, Wis. Wozney-Killian Funeral Home of Arcadia will be assisting the family with arrangements.

Margaret (Stemper) Stadtler

CALEDONIA, Minn. — Margaret (Stemper) Stadtler, 93, of Caledonia died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Caledonia. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, with a 2 p.m. rosary and 4 p.m. prayer service, at McCormick Funeral Home in Caledonia and from 10:30 a.m. to services Saturday at the church. Elizabeth ‘Betty’ L. Wish

Elizabeth “Betty” L. Wish, 85, of La Crosse died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Hillview Healthcare Center in La Crosse. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery in La Crosse. George D. Thompson

WHITEHALL, Wis. — George D. Thompson, 80, of Whitehall died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jack Funeral Home with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery, both in Whitehall. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to services Saturday at the funeral home.
