The players’ association filed a grievance on behalf of Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon, who was released by the team after shoving the general manager Ed Wade to the floor during an altercation last week.
It’s no surprise Chacon wants his contract back. Pushing his boss cost him half of his $2 million salary and a chance to make more than $1 million more in performance bonuses this season.
The union accuses the Astros of disciplining and terminating Chacon without “just cause.” Maybe I’m out of the loop, but I’ve never read an employee handbook that lists assaulting a supervisor as an acceptable workplace behavior.
If you happen to find an organization that accepts that, give Latrell Sprewell a call. He’s been in the hunt for that dream job for years.
