Johnson participating in interfaith program

The Rev. Kent Johnson, director of the Lutheran Office for Justice and Peace in La Crosse, is part of an interfaith delegation traveling June 19 to July 1 in Egypt and Syria as part of a program titled “Religion and Society: A Dialogue,” which explores Islam in the United States and in the Middle East.

The citizen-exchange program is sponsored by the National Peace Foundation and the Islamic Society of North America, and the two groups will host four delegations in 2008.

Among other work, those involved are discussing the benefits produced by co-existence among religious communities and religious practice in a multicultural, multireligious context. The program seeks to build dialogue between Muslim thinkers, practitioners, writers and activists and leaders from other religions.
