Fern A. Abts, 92, of La Crosse died Sunday, July 6, 2008, in her home. Robert ‘Bob’ G. Arentz
GALESVILLE/LA CROSSE, Wis. — Robert “Bob” G. Arentz, 66, of Galesville and formerly of La Crosse died unexpectedly, Sunday, July 6, 2008, at his home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1941, in La Crosse to Franklin “Bud” and Marie (Butterfield) Arentz. Bob was employed at the La Crosse Cooler Company and then G. Heileman Brewery in La Crosse. He also worked at Ashley Furniture in Arcadia, Wis., for several years before retiring in 2006. Bob enjoyed spending time in the outdoors surrounded by nature and wildlife. He also enjoyed hunting and especially fishing.
Survivors include his mother, Marie “Toots” Arentz of La Crosse; sons, Rob Stuhr and Gene “Geno” Arentz, both of La Crosse, and Robert “Bob” Arentz of Fox Lake, Minn.; an adopted son, Ricky Arentz of De Soto, Wis.; four grandchildren, Dillon and Dustin of La Crosse and Brydon and Devon of Fox Lake; one brother, Gary F. (Carol) Arentz of Onalaska, Wis.; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many good friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Bud; a brother, Fred Butterfield; and a sister-in-law, Paula (Gierok) Butterfield-Bassett.
Memorial services will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse. Susan Haukaas, Summer Chaplain at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. until time of services. A celebration of Bob’s life will follow the service at Honest Paul’s L&M Tavern, 631 Copeland Ave., La Crosse.
Bob will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him. “Rest in Peace Bobby.”
Evelyn M. Bach
Evelyn M. Bach, 99, of La Crosse died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Alterra Clare Bridge Cottage. She was born May 8, 1909, in La Crosse to William and Annie Burow.
She is survived by four nephews, Tom Bach, Steve Bach, Richard “Dick” Burow and Jeff Burow; and two nieces, Stacia Mercurio and Karla Vanleeuwen. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Amil C. Bach.

Ralph Oren Breecher Jr.
Ralph Breecher, 71, of La Crosse died Friday, July 4, 2008, at his home.
He was born in Moline, Ill., on July 13, 1936, to Ralph and Cybil (Hesser) Breecher. Ralph served in the U.S. military for 28 years, serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and continuing to serve in the Army National Guard. On Dec. 31, 1984, he married Toots (Miriam) Breecher, and she preceded him in death Aug. 26, 2006. He worked for BNSF Railroad for 31 years. Ralph was an avid fan of watching movies and enjoyed traveling. He also enjoyed going to church and listening to church services on the radio.
He is survived by three daughters, Joy (Tom) Gerke, Vicki (Ron) Schumacher and Linda (Felix) Mendiola; seven sons, Mark (Julie), Keith (Anne), Kyle (Claire), Jason (Stacie) Breecher, Hal (Karen), Bruce (Laurie) and Todd (Melissa) Delaney, sisters, Jackie Breecher and Marty (Lyle) Knutson; grandchildren, Matt (Becky) Schumacher, Scott, Mike and Sara Schumacher, Jeff, Daniel, Jenny, Amanda, Marissa, Alyssa and Nicholas Delaney, Vanessa, Valerie and Renee Walton, Karlie Gerke and Jenna Breecher, and Kari, Dale, Stan, Kyle, Catherine, Bayle, Wyatt, Andrew, Stacey, Haley, Mark, David and Emily Breecher. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Alice Lenser; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a daughter; Kari; and his beloved dog, Cookie.
Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Sill St., La Crosse. The Rev. Stephan Sandness will officiate, and burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, rural La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 809 Gillette St., La Crosse, and again at the church Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Irene Marie (Kubal) Noelke-Satory
Irene Marie (Kubal) Noelke-Satory of La Crosse passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, July 6, 2008.
Irene was born Nov. 16, 1910, at the home of her grandparents, Vitalis and Katrina Kubal, 917 Jackson St. in La Crosse. Irene was the third child born to Frank and Mary (Zahradnik) Kubal. Her parents moved to Tomah, Wis., shortly after she was born, and they returned to the La Crosse area when Irene entered first grade at St. Wenceslaus School. She went on to graduate from Central High School.
Irene worked as a manager of the millinery department at Barron’s in downtown La Crosse. She married Joseph P. Noelke on Jan. 12, 1938, at St. Wenceslaus Church. Together they had five sons, Joseph, John, James, Robert and William. Irene was an extremely hard-working woman. She took great pride in a hard day’s work and a job well done. She was extremely proud of her sons, and she was a very kind and loving mother. After her sons were raised, she spent many volunteer hours working at the information desk and gift shop at St. Francis Medical Center for the Auxiliary.
Joseph P. Noelke passed away Nov. 4, 1979. Irene married Dr. John Satory on Dec. 7, 1984. They enjoyed 20 years of married life together. Dr. Satory passed away March 25, 2004.
Irene is survived by four sons, Joseph P. Noelke Jr., James (Sandra) E. Noelke and William (Charlene) P. Noelke, all of La Crosse, and Robert T. Noelke of San Francisco. She is also survived by the Satory Family, John (Beth) Satory Jr., of La Crosse, Chris (Ron) Satory-Lemire of Maine, Bruce (Pam) Walters of La Crosse, Rick (Sandra) Walters of Hong Kong and Dr. Perry (Margie) Walters of Utah; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Joseph, William, and David (Laurie) Noelke, Lisa (Denver) Anderegg, Stephanie (John) Loizzi, all of La Crosse, Elizabeth (Jacob) Boos of Haworth, N.J., Kathryn and Kelly Noelke of San Francisco; and 11 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Patrick Noelke, Samuel, Lucas and Megan Anderegg, Nicholas, Madeline and Jack Noelke and Katherine, Maxwell and Sophie Boos; many numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Her son, John F. Noelke, preceded her in death March 16, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, brother Ralph Kubal Sr. and her sisters, Rosalind (Kubal) Lapitz and Grace (Kubal) Panke.
Irene was a lifetime member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, and in later years St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral Parish. She was a loving mother, caring sister and a wonderful friend. A truly classic, elegant lady. She will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be donated to the following organizations: St. Francis Hospice, Blessed Sacrament Church, St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral or San Damiano Chapel (previously St. Wenceslaus Church).
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, 530 Main St., La Crosse. The Rev. Michael Gorman and Monsignor Bernard McGarty will concelebrate the Mass. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until services.

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — Ellen Cowan Pratt of Apache Junction and formerly of Trempealeau and La Crosse, Wis., died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in Arizona.
She was born April 16, 1939, to Lloyd and Margaret (Shrake) Cowan in Trempealeau. On April 18, 1960, she married Maynard Pratt in Trempeleau.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and was a loyal friend.
She is survived by her two sons, John Pratt and Richard (Sue) Pratt; granddaughter, Chelsea; and grandson, Kyle. Also surviving are sisters, Peggy Wing of La Crosse, Catherine Knopf of Milpitas, Calif.; Vivian (Mort) Simerson of Peoria, Ill.; and Teresa (Steve) McAllister of Le Saucier, Miss.; brother, Charles (Tina) Cowan of Peoria; and nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maynard Pratt; sister, Virginia Stanislawski; brother, John Cowan; and brothers-in-law, Richard Wing and Peter Stanislawski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at St. Bartholemew’s Catholic Church, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, both in Trempealeau. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Craig David Waller
LAS VEGAS — Craig David Waller, 46, died unexpectedly June 7, 2008, at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas.
Craig was born June 3, 1962, in Red Wing, Minn., to Gordon and Joyce (Kersten) Waller when the family resided in Ellsworth, Wis. In 1964, Craig moved with his family to Logan, Utah, and in 1967 to Tucson, Ariz. Craig graduated with honors from Tucson High School in 1979. He then operated his own landscaping business and worked as a machinist. In 1994, Craig moved to San Diego where he worked for Stu Segall Productions, building movie sets. He later moved to Las Vegas and worked as a machinist for Absolute Metals.
Craig is survived by his parents, Gordon and Joyce Waller of Augusta, Wis.; sister, Cynthia White and nephews, Kristof, Andreas and Jon Erik White of Eau Claire, Wis.; grandmother, Gertrude Kersten of Baldwin, Wis.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Goodwin and OIga Waller and Bernard Kersten.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Fall Creek, Wis. Anderson Funeral Home of Augusta, Wis., has been assisting the family with arrangements.
Anna Marie ‘Sis’ Walz
GLEN HAVEN, Wis. — Anna Marie “Sis” Walz, 81, of Glen Haven died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Good Samar-itan Center in Fennimore, Wis.
She was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., the daughter of Andrew O. and Marie (Forest) Novak. Anna Marie attended St. Mary’s Academy School in Prairie du Chien. She was united in marriage to Gerald J. Walz on Oct. 5, 1946, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. After their marriage, they lived in rural Glen Haven, where they farmed until 1990. Anna Marie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glen Haven, its Altar Society and was the bookkeeper for the church for many years. She also sold Shaklee products. Anna Marie enjoyed quilting, knitting, needlework, cooking, gardening, playing solitaire, donating blood and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was also interested in her family’s genealogy.
She is survived by eight children, SuzAnne Taylor of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Barbara (Lee) Ekblad of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Richard (Jane) Walz, Onalaska, Wis., Paul Walz, Centennial, Colo., Larry (Joanne) Walz of St. Cloud, Fla., Tim (Tracy) Walz of Glen Haven, Mary Walz of Prairie du Sac, Wis., and Michael (Colleen) Walz of Onalaska; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Bea Novak of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald, on April 30, 1993; a grandson, Samuel Walz; and her brother, Andrew E. Novak.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glen Haven, with Father Bart Timmerman officiating and Bill Manthe assisting. Burial will be in Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington, Wis. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. Thursday morning at the church until time of services.
