Minn. House Republicans introduce candidate crop

ST. PAUL (AP) — Minnesota Republicans are promising to contest all 134 House seats as they try to regain the majority status they lost to Democrats in 2006.

A large crop of GOP candidates has filed for office and Minority Leader Marty Seifert said he’s got only a couple more candidates to recruit to meet his goal.

Seifert says filling all the ballot slots was key to him even if not all of the races are winnable.

His party has a big stretch to get back into power given the DFL’s 36-seat edge. But, Seifert said, “we lost the majority in one cycle, we can take it back in one cycle.“

Seifert said there are more women candidates on the Republican slate than ever before with at least 30 of them. Democrats now have 35 women now serving in the House.
