In a letter, the fair suggested that vendors boost profits by offering “family pricing” for multiple items. It also suggested food vendors offer smaller portions to compensate for rising food costs.
“Some of us might appreciate that because we do so much eating at the fair,” said Brienna Schuette, a spokeswoman for the Minnesota State Fair.
Schutte said officials are aware that the cost of doing business has risen. But she said the fair should still be affordable for families.
“We know how the economy is and we know that the costs of doing business are rising,” she said.
State Fair officials are leading by example by not increasing admission prices this year. Tickets at the Midway and Kidway will also be the same as last year.
George Wozniak, who co-owns french fry stands at the fair, said he wasn’t sure whether he’ll raise prices. He noted cooking oil prices have doubled in the last two years.
“I actually like the tone of the Minnesota State Fair letter on 'the sky is not the limit,'" said Wozniak.
