Troy Molde told city officials on Monday that police violated his rights when they entered his home as a part of a public service campaign to remind residents to secure their homes to prevent burglary.
Molde is petitioning the city for a public hearing to consider changing the Lakeville Police Department's policies on when officers can enter a home without a search warrant.
Usually, officers just left notices on doors as part of the campaign, but they went further in Molde's case the morning of June 19.
Molde said he awoke to police flashlights shining in his face and two police officers in his bedroom. Police told him his garage door was open, the TV was on, keys to his truck were in the ignition and the door to his house was open.
