Organizers have big plans for Irishfest

.
What’s got strong men hurling cabers and stones, the welcome scent of soda bread, and as much Celtic music as your ears can handle?

Irishfest, of course. Organiz-ers gathered Wednesday to talk about this year’s festival, which will be Aug. 8 to 10 at the South Side Oktoberfest grounds.
While there will be plenty of music, including perennial favorite Gaelic Storm, lots of new things will be offered as well at this year’s festival.

President Pat Stephens said Irishfest always has merged culture and fun, throwing in a dollop of education with big helpings of music, food and games.

“We do have a great community that enjoys the outdoors,” he said, and Irishfest takes advantage of that by offering plenty of activities.

Admission is $6 a day, which Stephens called a great deal since some of the bands performing at Irishfest command much larger ticket prices when they play other venues.

New this year will be a tug of war for adults, a baking contest, an Irish play and highland games for children. Yes, this is the one place your child can feel free to throw rocks — but only at the official Rock Throw.

" Irishfest? Another UWL subsidized event in the City of Lacrosse. Remember Judith? Ask and I will explain it. "

" People that post in here are nuts. It doesn't matter what you say.... someone is going to find something wrong with it and jump down eachothers throats..... drives me crazy. It would be nice if we could use this service to share opinions and real facts then to sit and bicker. Seriously... everyone acts like children on here. If you really need to fight.... join a debate team...and leave our message board for what it's intended to be used for!!!!! "

I too have enjoyed our time. We should get together sometime! "

" antieverything, i've enjoyed our banter. unfortunately, i have other things to tend to. have a pleasant day and try not to say anything on here you wouldn't say to someone's face. later! "

" i've made no claims on your beverage cost preferences. you're the one that may have given the impression you were against people who enjoy a $2 long island. i don't care how much you or anyone else pays for booze or what you do with it when you buy it. "

" Michella, I too enjoy a 2.00 Long Island. Now who is making the making broad, unsupported assumptions. That would be you! "

" antieverything, i hope you understand, there is just so much negativity on these message boards sometimes. i just don't understand why some folks find it necessary to freak out on others for expressing their opinion. if you've got something to say, just say it without singling out somebody and making broad, unsupported assumptions about that person. if you've got a point to make, you should be able to make it without employing methods like those. and thanks for asking nicely, but i prefer to type this way. i hope it won't bother you too much. "

" Geeesh Michella. Why dont you let Jersey respond. I didnt send that shot across your bow.
And start using your caps please. Notice, I said please! "

MichellaBella wrote on Jul 10, 2008 11:23 AM:

" lay off, antieverything. jersey didn't say he wouldn't go at all, just not every day. and i happen to agree with him! maybe instead of being a lush, as you contend, he's just not willing to part with the money. there's plenty of reasons someone might have for that! stop attacking people by jumping to ridiculous conclusions. "

antieverything wrote on Jul 10, 2008 10:31 AM:

" Jersey,
Is six bucks a hardship or cant you stand a festival that is more about culture and music than drinking. Yes there are adult beverages but this fest is slanted way from the booze pounding that Lacrosse is known for. My guess Jersey, is that you are more concerned with who has 2.00 Long Islands than hearing great music and watching the dancers. "

" I'm very happy to pay the $6/day to attend Irishfest - they have excellent FAMILY entertainment, and you'd pay more to see a band like Gaelic Storm elsewhere. Irishfest is written into our calendar the minute we hear the date! "

" I understand the cost of the fest, but being charged every day keeps me from going multiple days. "
