Arcadia mayor loses appeal on filing error, won’t appear on ballot in 91st Assembly race

.
John Kimmel, mayor of Arcadia, Wis., will not be on the ballot this fall for the 91st District state Assembly seat.

The Wisconsin Board of Elections denied Wednesday to add Kimmel, a Democrat, to the ballot after he failed to list the election date on his nomination petition.
Kimmel had appealed the rejection but received only three votes in favor of restoring him to the ballot. Board action requires four votes, said George Dunst, staff counsel.

Candidates can challenge the decisions in circuit court.

Kimmel did not return telephone messages Wednesday.

Nine candidates for now will be listed for the seat being vacated by Barbara Gronemus.

Five Democrats and two Republicans will face off in a Sept. 9 primary. A Libertarian and an independent also are running.

Gronemus, a Democrat from Whitehall first elected in 1980, announced last year she would retire.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.

" re Casual observer, give me a break. You live in Arcadia, not New York or Chicago. Apparently you have never lived in a real CITY. Arcadia is only a blip on the radar. People raised in small towns and that never leave are so blind. "

" It strikes me as funny how quick people are to pull out the "racist" card in regards to Mayor Kimmel. Apparently, people have forgotten that he is NOT the first town official to propose the ordinances he did. And I hope he's not the last. I invite anyone who's quick to holler "racist" to spend a weekend with me in Arcadia working until the early morning hours--when we're done, you can walk to your car alone, just as I do. Perhaps then, you'll see where the basis for some of Mayor Kimmel's proposed ordinances originated. Better yet, move to town, and see how much time passes before you start sharing the same sentiments. "

" I am from Arcadia as well. I don't agreee with everything our mayor has done but at least he is trying to do something weather it be right or wrong. If the past mayor and city council would have tried to help the city grow along with the great companies we have here. Arcadia would have twice the population and tax base. But instead they stood by and watched. How does a town have 2000 people for almost 50 years and the employment in this city has grown I am guessing to 5,000 jobs a day. I have seen more postive housing growth as well as more accoutablity in the departments since Kimmel has taken office.

I.E.
Housing Ordinance (what city doesn't have one)
Transporation (50 trucks a day to over 300 est.) "

" The people of the 91st district are fortunate regarding this vote. I live in Arcadia and the person we call mayor, not only can show his racist colors, is on a spending spree of taxpayers dollars, all in the name of progress.
This is happening while the rest of us are tightening our belts. I feel for the people on limited incomes, are they going to have to give up food, medicine or healthcare because of excessive spending? Currently this mayor wants a new city hall. A good leader would be waiting until the economy tells us it is appropriate to spend. I am sick of politicians who deem the taxpayer inconsequential by virtue of their actions. Being an excellent leader is not about making a name for themselves but about representing the people. I pray the 91st district elects a person with fortitude and intelligence. "

" Isn't this the guy that was on national news, for publicly being racist? The fact that he could only get 3 votes should tell him something. "
