.
A bench warrant has been issued for a La Crosse man police say is responsible for stealing thousands of dollars worth of materials from several La Crosse businesses.

Jonathan L. Smith, 19, of 2819 Harvey St., was arrested June 18 on 11 counts of theft and three counts of criminal damage to property, released on a signature bond and failed to show for his initial appearance earlier this month, according to police reports.
According to police reports, Smith is responsible for stealing the following items:

- Eight 22-inch diameter steel weights valued at $150 to $200 each, an electric motor and two large gear boxes from Advanced Electric Equipment Service, 2411 Larson St., in mid-June.

- More than 500 gallons of diesel fuel from Milestone Materials, 2400 Hauser St., in mid-July.

- Fifteen battery cores and 30 brake shoes worth $660 in early May and June and a metal bin of semi-brake core parts between the end of February and beginning of March from River State Truck and Trailer, 3959 N. Kinney Coulee Road.

- About 50 metal pipes weighing 125 pounds each from TCI Architects, 2435 Hauser St., in early May.

- An 8-by-10-foot trailer and two 150 gallon fuel tanks from the La Crosse Soccer Club in mid-May.

- Several steel pieces from Custom Metal Fabricating, 3090 Berlin Drive, in early June.

- A broken padlock was reported at Milestone Landscaping, 2600 Hauser St., on May 22.

" Another sig bond.....and then he runs. Really think your going to get your sig bond money out of this jerk? You judges don't have to worry about these clowns on "your" streets. When they catch him again, put him under house arrest in your house or put him in a jail cell. When the L are you people going to start protecting our homes and rights instead of the criminals. Hmmm? " This is only a guess but a majority of the things stolen sounds like he would be able to take and scrap. It appears that he was hitting all the businesses in the industrial park which, if that was the case, he should have stolen from the scrap yard right across the street from a couple of places. "

" Judging by the items he stole..He's not smart to begin with so then after he commits this "string of business thefts" We then let him go on a signature bond? That sounds like a really dumb idea..and now he's proven it. "

" I'm sorry was that an 8 by 10 foot trailer, how the heck do you hide that and what was he making? Was he building his own house? Why would you steal that stuff (I get worth money) but there is only so much you can sell and not get caught. "

" Too bad he didn't have some drugs on him. That would really make this a heinous crime. As it stands, probably a slap of the wrist. "
