Facility needs on tap for school board meeting

.
La Crosse School Board members have a full agenda for Monday’s regular meeting.

They will continue to discuss facility needs and a referendum, plus hold a debriefing on the retreat Friday and Saturday that focused on board policies and strategic planning.
The board voted July 7 to take a “no referendum” option off the table and focus on proposals that likely would go to referendum in November.

Administration is to report back to the board Monday with more details on the costs involved in keeping Franklin and Roosevelt elementary schools open; the idea of tapping the district’s $33 million fund balance for $5 million and $10 million for facility needs; and enrollment projections for each school.

Janet Rosseter, the district’s executive director of business services, also will present the 2008-09 proposed budget, which the board will take up at its Aug. 4 meeting. A public hearing on the budget will be held later that month.

Rosseter has been updating the board on various aspects of the budget throughout the budgeting process.

" Some of you nasty teacher-hater posters ought to run for the school board, (so you can go get 'em!) but if you DO, be sure to know all of your facts, rather than just half truths, and even some WHOLE truths mixed in with misinformation (or lies, if you choose) and nasty insults to people who dedicate their lives to teaching children, not because their getting rich, but because they care about kids and their community. I love these quotes from Wayne Dyer "When you judge others, you do not define them. You define yourself." And, " Loving people live in a loving world. Hostile people live in a hostile world. Same world." "

" "For a while I thought he was a vigilant crusader"? That's good because I thought you were connected by a feeding tube to the System since the beginning. Also nothing brings your posts out like school issues. "

" Democrats????? They are on the top of the heap of these overpaid, over benefited bureaucrats. Do you really beleive that the Tribune benefits at the same level as the School System? Do you think our own Regent pays benefits like the System? Do you think that any private employer on the Board pays at the same level? Of course not! But Blue will not discuss that facet of this conversation or issue. Oh Yeah, it is now out of our hands, and in the 'States'. "

" How many poster's to the site did not even know that Kember received an additional $10.5k? Almost all of them. They do now. How many knew the contribution to the WRS was 11.7%? While some that knew better still referred to the contribution as employee/employer. Even though we taxpayers paid both portions? How many posters knew that the WRS retirment allowed/afforded these employees to retire at 55 and we paid 80% of their last health premiums until 65? HOW MANY OF THESE POSTERS ARE INDIGNANT WHEN FACED WITH THE TRUTH AND THE FACTS THAT I HAVE BROUGHT TO THEM FROM 'EDUCATION'? Keep it up Blue, you breath air into the issue. "

" But Craig, no, Craig is just acting mean. For a while I thought he was a vigilant crusader, trying to get the most from his tax dollar, but I don't believe that anymore.

He shows his anger most when he bullies others in these blogs. His other point about Kember's $10,500 is another good example. Millions of dollars are needed and he keeps harping about $10,500. That's a lot of money, true. Kember may not even deserve it. It might be a good first step toward millions and millions, but it won't solve the problem. So why harp on it continually? The answer is anger. Can't argue with that. Can't call it 'right.' "

" Mack has a good question: Where is all the money going?

I know the way the cost of everything is increasing these days, I get angry and frightened, too.

Funding for public education needs to be dealt with in a different way. The GOP has shifted the tax burden to the little guy. Then they demonized the teachers' union and said it's their fault. The Democrats are not doing their part to point this out and correct it. WMC laughs all the way to the bank. "

Blue State Bruce wrote on Jul 20, 2008 11:13 AM:

" It might hurt if they were right and could make cogent statements.

You just have to bait Craig with a story that has the word 'teacher,' 'school,' or 'Kember' in it and then he rants and rants, showing his true colors. The guy has issues for sure. Like the time the school portion of his property taxes dropped by 9%. He insisted that the taxes increased, even when you could read it right on the county's website.

I also wouldn't say it's 'right' for Craig to pick on a secretary who's not here to defend herself. That's bullying, and it's not right. "

" Hey Bruce...it hurts to know that Mack and Craig are right, doesn't it? "

Mack wrote on Jul 20, 2008 9:07 AM:

" At more than $10,000 per child per year, where is all the money going? This is not sustainable. We are spending plenty but what are we getting? Some area schools are palatial and teachers are retiring very early with very healthy pensions, most of which is entirely non-existant in the private sector. "
