Published - Sunday, July 20, 2008 Onalaska vet named vice commander of state Legion Willard “Chris” Christensen, a Vietnam era veteran from Onalaska, Wis., was elected vice commander of the Wisconsin American Legion this weekend during the 90th annual state convention in La Crosse. Jim Reigel of Marshfield was elected commander of the state Legion. Christensen served 10 years in the Marine Corps and 10 years in the Navy and is a member of Post 336 in Onalaska. He has been Seventh District Commander for the previous two years. Christensen’s wife, Eunice, is a past Seventh District Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary president. Christensen and three other vice commanders were installed Sunday during closing ceremonies of the five-day convention that drew an estimated 800 Legion members to La Crosse. The Wisconsin American Legion is the state’s largest veterans’ service organization with more than 74,000 members and 523 posts.
