Minn. regulators hold meetings on feedlots

.
ST. PAUL — Minnesota pollution regulators are traveling the state to hear from livestock farmers about feedlots.

The informal meetings start Monday in Glenwood to cover proposed changes in large feedlot permits. An official public comment period opens later this year.
More than 1,000 large farm operations in the state have permits under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System.

Changes would affect the way farmers can use manure, dispose of dead animals and handle runoff water. They would start in 2011.

Upcoming meetings are in Blooming Prairie, Jackson, Redwood Falls, Detroit Lakes and Mankato.

" I totally agree with you RA but meat byproducts in cattle food has been outlawed for some time. Also think about all those grown hormones and cancer. "

" Feedlots are terrible and inhumane. Cattle should be grazing on grass, getting exercise and sunshine. They need certain food, instead they are standing in mud, urine and crap up to their stomachs. They are being fed what ever the farmer can afford, like cereal and some feed with meat byproducts. Cows are not here to eat meat. We wonder where the cancer comes from, the food chain!!! "
