The 49th annual Lumberjack World Championships start next Friday and will include more than 20 events such as men’s and women’s logrolling, chopping and the pole climb.
More than 100 lumberjacks compete for more than $50,000, the largest prize for lumberjack competition in the world.
The competition started in 1960 as a way to acknowledge the history of the logging industry in the United States.
Executive director Diane McNamer says 10,000 people from around the country and world generally attend the three-day event in Hayward.
