Green Bay sanctuary cares for baby otters

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A Green Bay wildlife sanctuary will soon have two otter pups on exhibit.

The Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary has been caring for two pups rescued from a cranberry bog in Tomah and will begin showing them Aug. 12.

That’s the same day the sanctuary will announce the winner of contest to name the animals.

Senior animal keeper Lori Bankson says the pups were less than a week old when they squirted out of a cranberry bog pipe that was being flushed. The mother was scared off, so the pups were turned over to Bankson for care.

She says they had to be fed six times a day and learn to become waterproof, swim and eat on their own.
