District 2 council seat to stay open

.
The District 2 seat on the La Crosse Common Council will remain vacant until April’s regular election, council president Bill Harnden said Tuesday afternoon.

Harnden was on the fence about filling the post Monday after hearing word of Jon Olson’s resignation.
Olson cited personal reasons for his decision to step down from the far North Side district he represented for almost 6½ years.

District 2 is at the northeast corner of the city, near the border with Onalaska, Wis.

Harnden said he consulted two other North Side council members before deciding not to seek an appointment.

The seat couldn’t be filled until October at the earliest, while candidates in the April election can circulate nomination papers by Dec. 1, he said.

Harnden also said North Side council members Andrea Richmond in District 1 and George Italiano in District 3 have agreed to take any calls for the district. He hadn’t yet spoken with District 4 council member Jai Johnson.

Richmond said she’s happy to assist District 2 constituents, but “disappointed the position will not be filled, being that budget season is coming up and we need to have representation for that district.”

Olson was the second council member to resign this year. Former council president Joe Ledvina bowed out in April and only recently was replaced by Lorraine Rose Decker.

" Doyle? Doyle makes near $20k for handling a gavel for the County. His wife is the Family Court Commissioner, as he practice Divorce Law in town. He also allowed his own client's soon to be ex-husband, who also happened to be a local Judge, sidestep clearly printed Court Orders attendance with minor children during their divorce in County Sandcastles & Family First Classes. That was after the wife of the Judge went down and took it upon herself to sign up for these merit filled classes for both adults and their children with peers of their age. Doyle was also instrumental in retaining the power for himself to pick Committee Chairs, rather than relinquish that choice by a vote by the Committee Members. This is fun. Easier than setting traps for varmints. "

" Nobody sent me. Who sent you? Must you see a conspiracy in everything? You are under the weather Craig; you didn't say anything about your good friend Steve Doyle. "

" Who sent you? LOL
Johnsrud, behind closed doors specialist. Medinger, never turned a profit in his life. Kondracki, did right by me. Farmer, spouts he is riding the fence but always manages to fall off one side. Harnden/Lenard/Kader/Italiano, minions. Kirch, no job description and too much power. Ledvina, an expensive career bureacrat on our dime. Kember, a millionaire. Smith, father to the Gerrards nieces. Weber, too darn slick for my tastes. If you are going to recap, 'recap'. You could have asked? "

oldglorydays wrote on Jul 24, 2008 11:07 AM:

" Yeah, read his posts! They aren't easily searched here, but Nestor a/k/a Lefse has plenty to read on the WIZM forum at http://www.1410wizm.com/theforums2/index.php You'll note how often he claims Johnsrud, Medinger, Harnden, Farmer, Lenard, Kader, Italiano, Kirch, Kondracki, Weber, Gerrard, Brent Smith, Kember, Ledvina and his special target Steve Doyle are all lying cheats stealing our hard earned dollars. You'll also note that he shouts down anyone who dares to disagree with him. "

Myturn wrote on Jul 23, 2008 11:20 PM:

" Like I said, read my posts, and then his. Now he attacks my mother? "

oldglorydays wrote on Jul 23, 2008 9:11 PM:

" Nestor, it doesn't take any audacity at all to label you a cyber bully. Doyle, Johnsrud and Kirch are your usual targets, but you've attacked every public official in town on a personal basis at one point or another. Didn't your mother teach you the golden rule? "

It should be a concern to every citizen in District 2 that they have representation of the Common Council in the interim if someone is willing to do this- through appointment. What Presiding Officer or Member should have the power to take this right away from every citizen within any District that they do not represent. This is the essence of the question.
Craig A. Nestor "

" Speaking with another Council member and two other former Northside Councilman they shared that there were some recent changes out at the perimeter areas. We both thought it best to obtain a 'quality' map from the City Engineer office (where we were sent). Nobody is asking for you , or anybody else to pay for anything! Although it illustrates quite well the changes that beg to be made at City Hall. We also will knock on doors and gather a consensus and signatures on this issue just fine without apologists and minions like yourself. Your last post looks real silly, and really states 'nothing' of merit on the issue. "

oldglorydays wrote on Jul 23, 2008 11:07 AM:

" And here I thought 'Mr.' Nestor was "well versed in City business" yet he has to ask for a map of the 2nd District? You mean you don't know where it is? That it is available online? And he expects us to pay for his political campaign? It's obvious that whenever he has to deal with real people in the real world, he just can't cut the mustard! "

Myturn wrote on Jul 23, 2008 10:51 AM:

" This is the same City IT Department that receives notices for meetings, agendas, and information late or never to be put up for public iewing on the City Web! As required by State statutes concerning timing parameters. Nobody uses a 'typewriter' and files just hard copy anymore? "

Myturn wrote on Jul 23, 2008 10:50 AM:

" Mr. Nestor called and asked for a list of registered voters for the last election in District 2. First there was a question if they had that information. Then the person guessed that it would encompass 300-400 pages, at the usual and unacceptable rate of $.25 per page. I use the term 'unacceptable' because when you ask for paperwork that taxpayers have every right to they charge $.25 per page. Therefore making it cost prohibitive to access at times. Which brings us back to the computer age and an IT Department that should be able to convert this information which is immediately kept in computer form and could be transferred by e-mail, quickly and efficiently. "

Senior Advocate wrote on Jul 23, 2008 10:49 AM:

" Mr. Nester does not have a smowballs chance in you know where to get appointed by this board.
He not an individual that would cow-tow to the establishment and that would put a kink in the armor and be a real pain to the Bozos now running the show. "

Myturn wrote on Jul 23, 2008 10:32 AM:

" oldglorydays- In fact, There is precedent all around us in municipalities, county and other entities of appointments to fill vacated seats for officials, judges, and elected officials that have resigned. Add to that an upcoming budget season where this District and it's taxpayers are unrepresented. A bath house that crawls with mold/mildew/etc, hundreds of homes in the Northside flood plain while we are posied to spend $390k of City money to move 7 houses in a Southside floodway that have never been wet, and a downtown area that is eating up millions of creative financing and tax breaks from the State and City Redevelopment Authority while the Northside/Old Town adjacent neighbors always seem to be last on the priority list without even a glance from City Hall. Some things never change, and one cannot wonder if it would be different if it were Mr. Harnden's District. "

" If Richmond would be the sole contact for District 2, coould she have 2 votes when it comes to issues? I think the people in District 2 would then have representation. "

Myturn wrote on Jul 23, 2008 9:48 AM:

" Mr. Nestor will be contacting City Clerk Lerke this AM. He will be asking for a map of the District, a voters list for the last election, and filing papers for the next election for this District. Then with the help of callers this morning he will start to assemble a petition to fill this seat from the presently unrepresented taxpayers of District two. "

oldglorydays wrote on Jul 23, 2008 9:05 AM:

" Nestor, who now refers to himself in the third person with a salutation, assumes because he wants the position that it isn't being filled because he's interested. As usual, he takes himself too seriously. It isn't unusual to leave a seat open less than a year from the election. "

Myturn wrote on Jul 23, 2008 8:44 AM:

" Coverage from the Tribune and WIZM states two present Northside Council Members will take calls from that unrepresented District. Which really is a loaded question. Although we must not forget that one of those Members (Richmond) has expressed dismay at not filling the seat and leaving those taxpayers unrepresented. "

Myturn wrote on Jul 23, 2008 8:16 AM:

" Mr. Craig Nestor has expressed a desire to fill that seat for District 2. Of course he is a resident of that District, but he also has a long time 33 year lacrosse base business in that district. He also is well versed in City business, and has great construction experience to bring to the Council just Like Jon Olson. The only problem it seems is that Mr. Nestor would dare ask questions like Ms. Richmond historically has. Also Mr. Nestor could not be counted on for a vote by those in power after pressing or lobbying on a one-on-one basis like other present minions. Instead he would vote his heart. Instead they have decided to leave the seat vacant and district residents unrepresented. "

By the way, where was the Trib coverage of comrade Rose Decker's appointment.Another one of those things left unreported.
