La Crosse businesses made his first court appearance Tuesday after turning himself in the day before.
A judge had issued an arrest warrant July 11 for Jonathon L. Smith, 19, of 2819 Harvey St., after he failed to appear in court for a second time to face 22 criminal charges.
Smith called a La Crosse police investigator Monday to come to his grandparents’ home to pick him up.
La Crosse County Circuit Judge Scott Horne reduced Smith’s bond Tuesday from $20,000 cash to $5,000 cash because Smith had turned himself in.
Smith is charged with operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, two counts of operating after revocation, three counts each of felony theft and felony bail jumping, four counts of criminal damage to property and 10 counts of misdemeanor theft.
He is accused in a string of thefts in La Crosse County, along with thefts in other
counties, including more than $3,000 in diesel fuel from one business, fuel from another business, trailers from the La Crosse soccer fields, scrap metal from various
area businesses and catalytic converters from vehicles, according to the criminal complaint.
