The steamboat was to be at Riverside Park from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday. Because the cruise is behind schedule, the boat now is expected to make a brief stop sometime Thursday night to take on water, said Clarissa Bates, the bureau’s director of development. “It won’t be here for very long,” Bates said.
The steamboat is on a trip from St. Louis to St. Paul, where it will be repaired.
It’s still expected to be in La Crosse from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, on its return trip to St. Louis, Bates said.
Thursday’s scheduled La Crosse shore stop was the third in a row to be canceled. The steamboat’s first La Crosse visits this season had been scheduled for July 10 and 14, but that cruise was canceled because of flooding from southern Wisconsin to Missouri. It now is scheduled to make 13 shore stops in La Crosse this year.
