Update: Truck pulled from Mississippi

.
A pickup truck was pulled from the west channel of the Mississippi River at the Gopher State Sportman's Landing this morning after it sank when the brakes failed and tires slid on algae-covered concrete as the driver was putting his boat in the water, said La Crescent (Minn.) Police Chief Todd Nelson.

The truck entered the water about 9:30 a.m. and the driver crawled out his window, Nelson said.
DICK RINIKER/LA CROSSE TRIBUNE The owner of a pickup truck that sank in the Mississippi River on Wednesday morning plucks items from the water. His truck ended up in the river’s west channel about 9:30 a.m. when its brakes failed and tires slid on algae-covered concrete as he tried to put his boat in the water at the Gopher State Sportsman’s Landing, said La Crescent (Minn.) Police Chief Todd Nelson. The man managed to crawl out of a window, Nelson said, before the truck floated about 30 yards downstream. The La Crosse Area Underwater Rescue and Recovery Unit and a Holmen, Wis., towing company used cables to pull the truck from the water.

Tribune reporting at its best. [No apostrophe] And, Full of contradictions and misspelling. [No hyphen] Now, I feel better. "

" I cant wonder if he ran out of gas and the thing died and started sliding and loss of power brakes ect contributed. More boaters running out of gas on the river and people only filling their tank a quarter full factor in the incline and a few gallons in an empty tank and SPLASH!Just a thought, otherwise I wonder what condition his tires were in ect..? " Tribune reporting at it's best. Full of contridictions and mis-spelling. Looks like the same people work for the tv stations in Lax. Their reporting is terrible and their choice of stories to air is worse!!! "

" The person writing the caption underneath the picture needs to learn to use spell check. Trailer is spelled incorrectly (twice), Federal is spelled incorrectly. And "picks stuff out of the water"??? Come on Trib, this is pathetic. "

" Did the brakes fail? Or did the tires slide? Brakes would have to work for the tires to slide..... "
