One pleads no contest in tavern holdup

.
One of three roommates involved in a March armed robbery at a North Side tavern was convicted today of the crime after reaching an agreement with prosecutors.

Phillip Herrera, 25, of 1813 George St., pleaded no contest to party to the crime armed robbery with use of force in La Crosse County Circuit Court. He will be sentenced Sept. 9.
An identical charge was filed against Jacob Ward, 22, and Parker Ostrander, 23, stemming from the March 4 robbery at George Street Pub, 1728 George St.

According to the criminal complaint, Ward jumped behind the bar counter and grabbed two bank bags with $1,606 inside from a cash drawer below the register, while Herrera blocked the doorway and pointed a pellet gun at customers. Ostrander supplied the gun, Herrera told police.

Herrera and Ward met Ostrander at their house after the robbery. The trio hid the money, gun and clothing used during the crime in a crawlspace beneath the basement steps, the complaint stated. Police later received the hidden items and matched a pair of shoes to prints found at the tavern.

" Again, a lowered gene pool showing these idiots. We have to support them in jail, what a waste. Get rid of them. "

" Losers. Their lives, such as they are, will be forever jacked up. Whenever they get out of prison, they likely will never get a good job because of their record. Hope it all was worth $1606 - split three ways. "
