Monroe County Fair opens today

.
TOMAH, Wis. — The Monroe County Fair will kick off at Recreation Park today, and the event will feature several annual traditions as well as new events.

The annual horse pull will take place at 6:30 p.m. today, and the Catch-A-Pig Competition — a new event to the fair — will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday. Anyone 14 and older who wishes to form a team can participate in the Catch-A-Pig Competition. Thursday night also will feature a big wheel race for children.
Friday will feature youth mutton busting at 6 p.m., and the Bulls, Broncos and Barrels rodeo at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a kids tractor pull on the midway, and the annual ATV drag races will be held throughout the day with registration from 9 to 11 a.m., a driver’s meeting at 11:30 a.m., and preliminary races beginning at noon. The ATV drag racing finals will be at 7 p.m.

The fair will wrap up Sunday with a draft horse hitch show at 9 a.m., and exhibit release will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

There will be plenty of other entertainment as well, including Fiddlestix Band at 8 p.m. Thursday, and the Bonneville Roof Riders band at 9 p.m. Friday in the beer garden. Throughout the fair, there also will be a reptile display on the grounds, an antique show, flea market and commercial booths.

The fair will feature a different carnival this year. Christman Amusements Carnival will provide fun and entertainment on the midway. Wristbands for carnival rides — with the exception of the bumper cars — are $15 from 5 to 10 p.m. today, 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Exhibit building entry will be from 3 to 9 p.m.

Gate entry to the fair is free, and parking on the grounds or gravel parking lot costs $3 per day or $10 for the entire fair. Paid parking is for the following times: 4 to 10 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday
