ONALASKA, Wis. — Carol P. (Heinke) Arenz, 79, of Onalaska died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at her home. Memorial services will be announced by Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, La Crosse.
Darryl C. Graf
HOKAH, Minn. — Darryl C. Graf, 52, of Hokah died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at his home in a tragic farm accident.
He was born May 8, 1956, in La Crosse to Charles and Kathleen (Semke) Graf. He married MaryLou Baumgartner on May 31, 1986, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Hokah, and together, they had three wonderful children.
Darryl spent his life with everything he loved, he had a wonderful wife that he adored and three beautiful children all working together to make a success in farming, a dream that was true to his being. He died doing what he loved.
Darryl not only enjoyed his family and farming but also being involved in many community groups. He was previously employed at River Steel and was a past member of the American Dairy Association, DHIA, Brownsville Fire Department and he currently served as treasurer of Brownsville Township, Minn., and was active on the Hokah Co-op board. He was a proud member of the “milk duds” cow club and an avid collector of toy tractors. He was faithful to the Weather Channel’s Local on the Eights. Darryl was also an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brownsville and was strong in his Catholic faith.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, MaryLou, and their three children, Michael, 19, Laura, 17, and Andy, 15, all at home; his mother, Kathleen (Robert) Ideker of Hokah; and his sister, Karen (Tom) Claridge of Red Wing, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, in 1988.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Hokah. Father Joseph Pete will officiate, and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hokah. Friends may call from 4 to
8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday. Memorials are preferred to St. Peter’s Church Renovation or St. Peter’s School. McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Gundersen Lutheran, MedLink Air, Tri-State Ambulance, the Brownsville First Responders, Father Pete and all of their friends, family and neighbors for the overwhelming support and help with the farm.
Daryl B. Lampert
LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Daryl B. Lampert, 62, of La Crescent died Friday, July 25, 2008, in his home. He was born July 5, 1946,
in Caledonia, Minn., to LeLand and Doris (Wilcox) Lampert. He attended Caledonia High School. In his early years, he put up many loads of firewood and also worked at Caledonia Implement. He then served in the U.S. Army. After returning from the Army, he worked at Trane Co. in La Crosse for 15 years. He also spent many years as groundskeeper for First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crescent. He married Elaine Oliver in October 1978, and they later divorced. For the past 10 years, his hobby was fixing and selling old lawn mowers and snow blowers. This was truly a passion of his, and he took great pride in his business, enabling him to meet many friends throughout the years. He truly enjoyed life and was known as a “character” by all who knew him. He loved talking to people and was friendly and good to all.
He is survived by a daughter, Sara (Scotte) Meyer of Viroqua, Wis.; his mother, Doris Lampert of La Crescent; a brother, Marvin (Mary) Lampert of Caledonia; three sisters, Vicky (Eldor) Wunnecka of Brownsville, Minn., Sharon (Ronnie) Goetzinger of Sturgeon Lake, Minn., and Virginia “Gin” Hoff (Mike Wang) of La Crescent; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, LeLand Lampert and two nephews, Matthew Lampert and Nick Hoff.
Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crescent. The Rev. Paul Ibisch will officiate. Burial will be in Crooked Creek Cemetery, rural Freeburg, Minn. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at SchumachernKish Funeral Home of La Crescent and from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the church.
Ashley M. McCoy
WEST SALEM, Wis. — Ashley M. McCoy, 17, of West Salem passed away unexpectedly in her sleep Friday, July 25, 2008.
She was born Oct. 16, 1990, in La Crosse to Douglas and Tina (Servais) McCoy. Ashley was a 2008 graduate of West Salem High School. She was currently employed at Bethany-Riverside Nursing Facility in La Crosse as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Ashley was a wonderful caregiver and was looking forward to attending Virterbo University (La Crosse) this fall to pursue a nursing career. She loved animals and flowers, especially daffodils. Ashley was a fun-loving girl who will be remembered for her smile. She was taken from us too soon and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her parents, Doug and Tina of West Salem; her maternal grandparents, Donald and Marie Servais of La Crosse; her paternal grandparents, Doug McCoy and Carolyn Lunsford of Woodbridge, Va., and Christine Meisenheimer and William George of West Salem; her paternal great-grandmother, Joan McCoy of Sparta, Wis.; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and her beloved pets, Cooper, Bailey, Puff, Duke, Sassy and Ginger.
A visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday and conclude with a time of sharing at 7:30 p.m. at Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem. Ashley’s parents request that family and friends participate in the time of sharing by bringing in a story or poem to be shared in Ashley’s memory.

MADISON/BANGOR, Wis. — Arlan E. Newburg, 76, of Madison and formerly of Bangor died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison. Services will be announced by Jandt Funeral Home, Bangor.
Ross E. Scheppa
ROCKLAND, Wis. / ROCHESTER, Minn. — Ross E. Scheppa, 35, of Rockland and formerly of Rochester died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at his home after a long and very courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 4, 1973, in Sparta, Wis., to Richard and Carole (Bicknell) Scheppa. He graduated from Sparta High School in 1992. Ross attended WWTC in La Crosse and received his associates degree in restaurant and food service management in 1994. He also attended St. Paul College, enrolling in the dietary manager’s program in 2004.
Ross worked in numerous food service facilities. He started his food service through HERO Club in high school, which employed him at St. Mary’s Hospital in Sparta. His last current job was in Coon Rapids, Minn., at Epithany Assisted Living Center, where he was dietary manager of the kitchen. He also cooked every Wednesday night at Faith Lutheran Church for family night, which he really enjoyed. He was also a member of the County Youth Program in Coon Rapids to help people with special needs make the transition into employment.
Ross loved fishing, camping and model railroading. He was the youngest member at the age of 12 to join the
West Central Model Railroad Club in Sparta and was very active in it again when he returned to this area. Ross will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Ross is survived by his father, Richard Scheppa of Kendall, Wis.; his mother, Carole (David) Helgesen of Rockland; a sister, Laura Scheppa of La Crosse; stepbrother, Jeff (Jana) Helgesen of Coon Valley, Wis.; two nephews, Griffin and Sawyer Helgesen; maternal grandfather, Paul L. Bicknell of Richland Center, Wis.; stepgrandmother, Bernice Helgesen of Sparta; aunts and uncles, David Scheppa of Camp Douglas, Wis., Earl (Lynn) Bicknell of Nevada, Vernon (Marleen) Bicknell of Arizona, Barbara Haas of Sparta, Paul (Trish) Bicknell of Richland Center, Glen (Lequeta) Bicknell of Baraboo, Wis., and Jeff (Jeanne) Bicknell of Baraboo; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ed and Marita Scheppa; maternal grandmother, Irene Bicknell; stepgrandfather, George Helgesen; and an uncle, Wilbert Haas.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethany Evangelical Free Church, La Crosse, with the Rev. Dave Hammond and Worship Pastor Greg Childress officiating. Burial will be in Leon Cemetery, Leon, Wis.

Madonna M. Tracy, 92, died at Franciscan Skemp Health Care Center on Saturday, July 26, 2008. Tentatively, services will be Wednesday in Mary Mother of the Church, St. Thomas More Parish. Burial will be in St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum in Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call prior to services at the church Wednesday.
