Advertisement There were cake, games and outdoor activities, but when it came time to open the gifts, most of them weren’t for the birthday girl.
“I thought it would be cool” to have people bring items to donate to the Trempealeau County Humane Society, said Emma, who will be homeschooled for sixth grade. “That’s where I got my beagle mix named Molly.”
A pile of goodies the humane society requested were delivered to the shelter personally by Emma and her dog, Molly McButter Grant. The shelter is located on Hwy. 53 between Blair and Ettrick.
The pair were able to visit the dog and cat rooms during their excursion.
The Trempealeau County Humane Society said the gifts will make the animals at the shelter a lot happier.
The Grant family came across Molly by chance when they were looking online for a family pet.
They found other dogs at the Trempealeau County locale that weren’t quite the right fit, but Yolanda, as Molly was known, meshed well.
The now-pampered pooch came to live with the Grants in Holmen a few days before Halloween and quickly won Emma’s heart.
“Her howl is so funny,” Emma said.
“Sometimes she just lays down in weird positions. It’s pretty funny.”
