Herman Bakkum
GONVICK, Minn. — Herman Bakkum, 90, of Gonvick died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008. Services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley, Wis., with a visitation from 6 p.m. until services. A complete obituary will follow in Tuesday’s Tribune.

Gladys C. Fleming

VIROQUA, Wis. — Gladys C. Fleming, 92, of Viroqua died Aug. 3, 2008, at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Viroqua United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Wednesday to services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Vernon County Humane Society or the Vernon Manor Activity Fund. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.

Emma Hafner

HOKAH, Minn. — Emma Hafner, 94 of Hokah died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in La Crescent. Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent.

Janice R. Hagen

Janice R. Hagen, of La Crosse died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Friends may call at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to services Thursday at the church. A complete obituary will be announced by the funeral home.

Niccole S. Hauser

SPARTA, Wis. — Niccole S. Hauser, 31, of Sparta died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, Sparta. She was born Sept. 24, 1976, in Jackson, Miss., to Dennis and Anita (Williams) Hauser. She grew up in Brandon, Miss. Niccole graduated from the McLaurin Attendence Center in 1995. After high school she received her CNA license. She moved to Sparta in the summer of 1999.

Niccole had been attending Western Technical College in La Crosse, in the biomedical engineering program. She enjoyed camping, fishing, drawing and sitting around the campfire with friends and family.

She is survived by her fiance, Brett Goodman of Sparta and his daughter, Kayle Goodman; her mother, Anita (Robert) Hughes of Brandon, Miss.; her father, Dennis Hauser of Sparta; her twin sister, Tiffanny Hauser of Sparta; three brothers, Heath (Kari) Hauser of Sparta, Jason (Kari) Hauser of Sparta, and Cody Hughes of Brandon, Miss.; maternal grandfather, James Williams of Ludlow, Miss.; three nephews, Austin, Keaton and Corbin; a special friend, Linda (Joe) Pendleton of Boscobel, Wis.; aunts, uncles and cousins; her cat, Pumpkin and her fish, Sapphire.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents; her maternal grandmother; two uncles and a niece.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, with the Rev. Richard Abernathy officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of services. Online condolences may be offered at www.lanham-miller.com.

Marilyn J. Hein

Marilyn J. Hein, 67, of La Crosse passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. She was born July 18, 1941, in La Crosse to William P. and Leona (Kendhammer) Marco Sr.; and graduated from Aquinas High School in 1959.

She married Jerrold “Jerry” Hein in La Crosse on Sept. 2, 1967, and they later divorced. Marilyn was employed by Gateway Transportation in La Crosse from 1962 until they closed their La Crosse location in 1981. She then worked in the office at Stansfield Vending Co. for 23 years until retiring in 2006.

Marilyn was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish in La Crosse and enjoyed gardening, reading and playing cards. However, her real love was the time she spent with her family, especially her two grandsons, Josh and Jordan, who were the light of her life.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Laura (Steven) Thesing, her grandsons, Josh and Jordan, and her mother, Leona Marco, all of La Crescent; three sisters, Rita (Bill) Clark of Minnesota City, Minn., Eileen (Rich) Brown of Deerwood, Minn., and Kathie Self of Fond du Lac, Wis.; a brother, Richard “Dick” (Amanda) Marco of Onalaska, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Gayla Marco of Schofield, Wis., and Sue Hein of Lake Wales, Fla.; along with a brother-in-law, Bob Self of La Crosse.

She was preceded in death by her father William P. Marco Sr.; a brother, William P. Marco Jr.; a brother-in-law, Walter “Wally” Hein; and her former husband, Jerry Hein.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with the Rev. Douglas Robertson officiating. Friends and family may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.; and again from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Mary, Mother of the Church Parish.

Rodell ‘Rod’ Norman Jenson

ONALASKA, Wis. — Rodell “Rod” Norman Jenson, 85, of Onalaska peacefully entered into heaven from his home while surrounded by his family on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008. He was born Jan. 22, 1923, in the town of Albion, Wis., to Jacob and Bernice (Nelson) Jenson. He was baptized into God’s kingdom in April 1923 and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at East Koshkonong Lutheran Church, Stoughton, Wis., in 1937. He was a graduate of Edgerton High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Southern California School of Optometry. Rod had a 48-year career in the optical field, mostly in California.

Rod faithfully served the Lord, helping to establish WELS congregations and California Lutheran High School in southern California. After moving back to Wisconsin in 1990, he continued serving his Lord at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Onalaska. He also served on the WELS Board of Evangelism of the Western Wisconsin District. After retiring and returning to Wisconsin, Rod was one of the originals drivers for the Onalaska Community Van and also worked as an attendant at the Sand Lake Road Wonder Wash for several years. Rod had a passion for golf and enjoyed playing the links for many years and on many different courses. When he wasn’t on the course, he was watching golf on TV. He was an avid gardener and had a love and skill for cooking.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Rod is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lois (Vomhof) Jenson; his children, Judith Portnoy, Bonnie (Russ) Haleen, Linda (Jack) McGann, Rodell Jenson II, Anita Jenson (Paul Brown) Millie (Doug) Hannaman, Julie (Mike) Hart, Johanna (Jason) Wihlm and Jennifer (Jason) Jenson; 16 grandchildren, Joshua (Jennifer) Jenson, Tammy (Steve) Feingertz, Mike McGann, Jameson (Monica) Hannaman, Jonathan (Kristin) McDonald, Anna (Reid) Brooks, William Rhodes, Joslyn Hannaman, Kayla Hart, Sierra Rhodes, Amy Jenson, Cameron Hart, Zachary Wihlm, Christian Wihlm, Hayden Wihlm, and Kiva Jenson; five great-grandchildren, Chloe Jenson, Michael L. McGann, Cooper Jenson, Connor McDonald, and Ethan Feingertz; a sister, Marian Peterson; and mother-in-law, Viola Vomhof. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Jenson and his three previous wives.

Funeral services will be held on at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Onalaska. Pastor Norris Baumann and Pastor William Bader will officiate. Burial will be in the Onalaska City Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from noon Tuesday until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to Luther High School or St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of Onalaska is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank the Gundersen Lutheran Home Care and Hospice doctors and nurses for all their comfort and care.

Kenneth H. ‘Skip’ Kubiak

Kenneth H. “Skip” Kubiak, 76, of La Crosse died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center. Funeral services will be announced by Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse.

Mary Louise Merideth-Maple

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Mary Louise Merideth-Maple, 60, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008.

She was born July 15, 1948, in La Crosse to Raymond and Mercedes Balzer Merideth. She married Gary Lynn Maple Sr. on Aug. 14, 1993.

She is survived by five daughters, two sons, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandaughter. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and one cousin. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Living Faith Baptist Church with a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Staab Funeral Home.

Joyce L. (Caucutt) Riddle

TOMAH, Wis. — Joyce L. (Caucutt) Riddle, 89, of Tomah passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at the Serenity House in Tomah.

Joyce was born March 4, 1919, in Valley, Wis., to Macy and Mabel (Hubbard) Caucutt.

On Feb. 1, 1941, she married Leon Samuel Riddle in Waukon, Iowa. Leon passed away in 1970. Joyce moved to the Tomah area 49 years ago. Here, she dedicated her life to helping others. She worked as a nurse at Hillsboro, Vernon and Tomah hospitals, all in Wisconsin. She also worked in Dr. Mubarak’s clinic and at Tomah Care Center. Joyce retired in 1983. She was a genuine caring person, who made anyone she was helping feel better.

Joyce was very involved within the community. One thing she loved was teaching Sunday school, which she did for many years. Joyce was an active member of Lighthouse Assembly of God, she participated in the Fifty-Five and Over Club, the Welcome Wagon and the Tomah Writer’s Group. When she lived in La Farge, Wis., she was a youth leader for five years. She was never very far away from family and friends and she loved keeping in touch with them via e-mail.

She is survived by her children, Richard (Barbara) Riddle of Tomah, Donald (Kathy) Riddle of Delavan, Wis., Leora (special friend, Charles Melvin) Koch of Madison, Wis., and Linda Steinmetz (Jerry) of Richland Center, Wis.; her extended family, Joyce Burnell and the Stone family; two sisters, Emily Burwitz of Stoughton, Wis., and Lucia Knutson of Madison; a sister-in-law, Ruby Caucutt of Genesee Depot, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon; a brother, Arwin Caucutt and a sister, Beth Moore.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lighthouse Assembly of God in Tomah. Pastor Terry L. Terell will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Visitation will also be from 10 a.m. Tuesday to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorials to be offered to Tomah Hospice or Lighthouse Assembly of God Church. Online condolences may be offered at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com. Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.
