The medical examiner said Anthony Michael Brastad died as a result of the gun shot wound Tuesday. The Rice County Sheriff's office said the girl was playing with a handgun the children had found in an unlocked nightstand at their home in the small town of Nerstrand, east of Faribault.
The boy was flown to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where he was pronounced dead about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Rice County Sheriff Richard Cook told the Faribault Daily News that criminal charges are possible and may depend on who left the revolver in the night stand. The gun belonged to the boyfriend of the kids' mother.
