Criminal probe under way in Milwaukee voter drive

MADISON (AP) — A Milwaukee County prosecutor said a criminal investigation is under way into irregularities involving a voter registration drive.

Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf said his office and the Milwaukee police are following up on referrals made by the city's election commission.

The Associated Press reported Wednesday the commission had referred the names of six special deputy registrars for possible prosecution.

Commission director Sue Edman said the canvassers worked for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. They fabricated hundreds of voter registration forms, she said.

Landgraf said it's too early to say whether criminal charges will be filed.
