Clara J. Bauer
LA CROSSE/MADISON — Clara J. Bauer, 93, a longtime resident of MeadowWood Assisted Living in La Crosse, before moving to the Madison area to be near her daughter, died in the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008.
She was born Dec. 27, 1914, in Minnesota to Anthony and Martha (Dittberner) Lentz. Clara enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was a lifelong member of the St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral Parish.
Clara is survived by a daughter, Virginia Chickey of Stoughton, Wis.; five grandchildren, Susan (Steve) Liebherr, Jeffrey Kaas, Diane (Dwayne) Krager, John (Rachel) Clarkin and Erin Clarkin; four great-grandchildren, Sara, Christa and Corban Liebherr, and Joshua Krager; and a son-in-law, John Clarkin of La Crosse.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jean Clarkin; a grandchild; two sisters, Caroline Lennon and Margaret Kulla; and a brother, Clarence Lentz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Marian Chapel at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, 530 Main St., La Crosse. The Rev. Michael Gorman will officiate, and entombment will be in the mausoleum in Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mary Jane DeGier
Mary Jane DeGier, 50, of La Crosse was called to her eternal home Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 23, 1957, in Starbuck, Minn., to Gordon and Evelyn (Rosten) Finstad. On May 19, 1979, she married Dennis DeGier in Starbuck. Mary was a stay-at-home mom for many years while Dennis farmed. When she and Dennis moved to La Crosse in 1987, she worked as an in-home daycare provider. More than anything else she was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed caring for her family. Mary loved to watch her kids and grandkids grow and participate in various activities. Her quiet strength and selflessness permeated every aspect of her life, and we will miss seeing her warm smile.
Mary is survived by her husband, Dennis; two daughters; Sara (Tony) DePaolo and Shelly Adams, both of Onalaska, Wis.; a son, Jeff (Kari) DeGier of Onalaska; two grandchildren, Brayden and Kaia DePaolo, both of Onalaska; her mother, Evelyn Finstad of Starbuck; a brother, Paul (Deb) Finstad of Fargo, N.D.; a sister, Lou Ann (Ted) Schmidt of River Falls, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Cher (Foster) Bucher of Centralia, Wash.; four brothers-in-law, Randy (Brenda) DeGier of La Crosse, Jerry (Jill) DeGier of Sun Valley, Calif., Kenny (Jean) DeGier of Echo, Minn., and Greg DeGier of Alexandria, Minn.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She joins for eternity her father, Gordon, who was very special to her.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1201 Avon St., La Crosse, with the Rev. Mark W. Rieke presiding. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends and family may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse, and again at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Mont C. ‘Sonny’ Horswill
SUN CITY, Ariz. — Mont C. “Sonny” Horswill, 88, passed away in Sun City on Wednesday, July 30, 2008.
Mont was formerly of La Crosse and Black River Falls, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, who passed away in 2006; and by his brother, Thomas Horswill.
He is survived by his daughter, Jill McKeever, and son-in-law, Jerry; his son, Kirk Horswill, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie; a sister, Kathlelen Horswill; and a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Richard and Beatrice Horswill. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date in Black River Falls.
Duwayne G. Hundt
Duwayne G. Hundt, 58, of La Crosse passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.
He was born in La Crosse on May 2, 1950 to Peter and Bernice (Meyers) Hundt. He married his life’s true soul mate, Diana Boehm, on Aug. 25, 1984, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in La Crosse. Duwayne was a 1968 graduate of Aquinas High School in La Crosse and later served his country with the United States Navy during the Vietnam war. He owned and operated Hundt Accounting for 30 years.
Duwayne lived and loved the game of golf. He truly enjoyed the time he spent with his golfing buddies at Cedar Creek Golf Course, where he was a member. But most of all he will be remembered for his kindness, his selfless generosity, and his great sense of humor. He was a wonderful father, son, brother and husband who will be dearly missed by his many family members and friends.
In addition to his wife, Diana of La Crosse, he is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Petra Hundt, and one son, Brian Gregory Hundt, both at home; his parents, Pete and Bernice Hundt of La Crosse; one brother, Fred (Judy) Hundt of Stoughton, Wis.; and two sisters Paulette (Ed) Hundt of La Crosse and Suzanne (Andrew) Hundt of La Crosse.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Diane Petra Hundt.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Roncalli Newman Center, La Crosse. The Rev. Mark Pierce will officiate. Burial, with military rites, will follow in Gate Of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m., where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used to establish an educational fund for the children.

Francis Ole Hysel
LA FARGE, Wis. — Francis Ole Hysel, 87, of La Farge passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Vernon Memorial Hospital, Viroqua, Wis.
He was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Bell Center, Wis., the son of Henry and Ida (Olson) Hysel. On Oct. 12, 1951, Francis was united in marriage with Margaret Fosdal in Viroqua, and they lived most of their married life in La Farge. Francis farmed the land most of his life and eventually retired from the La Farge Cheese Factory. He was very proud of the fact that he had only missed one day of work in 21 years. He enjoyed watching the Brewers and the Cubs and listening to Big John music.
Survivors include twin sons, Hank and Frank Hysel of La Farge; two daughters, Mary Rose of La Farge, and Wanda (Robert) Rush of La Farge; four grandchildren, David Blum of Richland Center, Wis., Aaron Rush of La Farge, Trisha (William) Johnson of La Farge and Malinda Hysel of Mauston, Wis.; six great-grandchildren, John Rush of Viroqua, Teresa Couey of La Farge, Jewels Johnson of La Farge, Cody Johnson of La Farge, Owen Blum of Richland Center and Zachary Blum; his brother-in-law, Lawrence Wallace of La Crosse; sisters-in-law, Amelia Howenschel of La Crosse, Thea (La Vern) Lawrence of Richland Center, and Elvira Hughes of Viola, Wis.; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Arlene Housner, Betty Lawrence and Mary Ann as an infant; and his wife, Margaret in 1996.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at La Farge Free Methodist Church. Pastor Mark Phillips and Bonita Dorscheid will officiate, and burial will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery, rural La Farge. Delores Mae Lorenz, 78, of La Crosse died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center,, La Crosse. Eldon F. ‘Elf’ Miller
Eldon F. “Elf” Miller, 76, of French Island died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 5 , 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
He was born July 24, 1932, in Cataract, Wis., to Henry and Mabel (Murray) Miller. He graduated from Logan High School in La Crosse and retired from the La Crosse Rubber Mills after 35 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gordon; a son, David Winjum; and a grandson, Lee.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; a daughter Cheryl Boughton; and sons, Michael Miller, Ken (Janice) Winjum, Jon (Traci) Winjum and Joel (Colleen) Winjum; a daughter- in-law, Kelley Winjum; and grandchildren, Jesse, Jamie, Molly, Kyle, Joseph, Katie, Lenore, Kathleen, Parker and Sterling; and great-grandchildren, Adrian and Kaya.

Martin ‘Marty’ C. Prust
BLAIR, Wis. — Martin “Marty” C. Prust, 88, of Blair and formerly of Tomah, Wis., died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, in Grand View Care Center in Blair.
Martin was born Feb. 21, 1920, in Marshfield, Wis., to Emil and Theresa (Eckes) Prust. He attended St. John’s Catholic School in Marshfield. After school he worked for the Conservation Corps Camp near City Point, Wis.
Martin served in the United States Army during World War II in Central Europe and later worked for the Greyhound Bus Co. and the Deaconess Hospital in Milwaukee prior to his retirement in 1983 when he moved to Tomah.
Martin volunteered for the Tomah VA Hospital for the next 16 years. He was an active member of the VFW, the American Legion and 40/8.
Martin moved to Blair in 2000. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, flea markets and playing cards.
Martin married Faith J. Breitenfeldt in 1952, and they later divorced. Faith died in 1990. Martin married Margaret E. Rexin in 1964. Margaret preceded Martin in death in October 2000.
Martin is survived by two daughters, Mary (Allen) Heimdahl of Blair and Katherine (Jakob) Grossmueller of Milwaukee; five grandchildren, Steven (Megan) Grossmueller of Milwaukee, Peter Grossmueller of Florida, Heather (Mike) Moechnig of South Dakota, Katie (Adrien) Johnson of Onalaska, Wis., and Jennifer Heimdahl of Madison; six great-grandchildren, Megan, Joseph, Skyler, Aspen, Brooks and Aiden; four sisters, Jacqueline Roginski of Milwaukee, Patricia Hoffman of Marshfield, Geraldine (Lenard) Lazar of Hawkins, Wis., and Bernice (Forrest) Brown of Rhinelander, Wis.; and a brother, Jerome (Arleen) Prust of Milwaukee.
In addition to his parents and wives, Martin was preceded in death by seven brothers, Edward, Sylvester, Orville, Melvin, Victor, Henry and Emil; and a sister, Betty.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield.
