Raymond Ray’ Thomas Cyr
GETTYSBURG, Pa./LA CROSSE Raymond “Ray” Thomas Cyr, 78, of Gettysburg and formerly of La Crosse died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Gettysburg Hospital.
Born May 24, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Arsene Thomas Cyr and Alida DuBois Cyr. He was the husband of Mary Loerwald Cyr, his wife of 56 years who retired from Franciscan Skemp Healthcare.
He was a brewmaster starting in 1952 at National Brewing Co. in Baltimore and retired from Heileman Brewing Co. in La Crosse.
He was a graduate of Towson Catholic in 1948, member of Master Brewers Association of America, member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Littlestown, Pa., member of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and Alhambra. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and member of the Gettysburg American Legion. He was an avid golfer and had three holes-in-one. He had lived in Timonium, Md., before moving to Gettysburg.
Surviving besides his wife is daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Sam “Butch” Adams of Westminster, Md.; son, Thomas A. Cyr of Arlington, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Shirley Cyr of Port Charlotte, Fla.; sister-in-law, Naomi Cyr of Hampstead, Md.; grandchildren, Abigail Adams, Hank Adams and wife Diane, Sarah Adams, Zach Adams and wife Michelle, and Maggie Cyr.
He was predeceased by a great-grandson, Gabriel A. Adams; sister, Dorothy Chilcoat; and brother, Wilfred Cyr.
Funeral services were held Friday Aug. 8, in Westminster, Md. Interment was in Meadow Branch Cemetery with military honors.

Frank Harrison
ROTUNDA WEST, Fla. Frank Harrison, 93, of Rotunda West passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008.
He was born March 29, 1915, in Chicago to Thomas and Gladys (Jones) Harrison. Frank served as a merchant seaman with the Merchant Marines during World War II and was awarded two medals for saving two seaman. He was a retired truck driver for Chicago American Newspaper and owned several small businesses during his lifetime. He moved from Victory, Wis., to Rotunda West in 2005.
Frank will be greatly missed by his daughters, Sandra (Charles) Muttschall of Cape Coral, Fla., Jill (Bernard) Garfinkle of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sally (Frank) Navratil of Rotunda West; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kee Harrrison.

Marion Martha Hefti
Marion Martha Hefti, 83, of Onalaska and La Crosse, Wis., passed away peacefully at Onalaska Care Center on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008.
She was born in La Crosse on Jan. 11, 1925, to George and Louise (Naegle) Melde. Marion married Robert Hefti on June 15, 1945, at St. James the Less Catholic Church in La Crosse. Marion was a lifelong homemaker and surrogate mother to many, many children. She loved and cared for each of them as if they were her own. She loved playing cards with her most precious friends. She also loved all of the friends she made throughout her life, and they were many. She wanted to say a “special” good-bye to Madonna Pervisky and Mellicent Hardiman.
Marion is survived by her daughters, Jeanne (Ted) Johnston of La Crosse and Diane (Pat) Callahan of Eau Claire, Wis.; sons, James (Julie) Hefti of Hokah, Minn., Kenneth of La Crosse and Jeffrey (Stephanie) of Santa Clara, Calif.; grandchildren, Roberta, Robyn, Angela, Jason, Nathan, John and Stella; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, Austin, Fletcher and Jagger; and a brother, James (Sharon) Melde.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Robert F. Hefti Sr.; son, Robert F. Hefti Jr.; daughter, Roxanne (Lyell) Hefti-Montgomery; brothers, George (Hilda), Donald (Myrtle), Edward (Gerry), Bernard (Helen), Robert (Mary), Fred and Norman (Delores); and a sister, Carmen (Sylvester) Soller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at San Damiano Chapel on the campus of Viterbo University in La Crosse. The Rev. Tom O’ Neill will officiate, and entombment will be in Garden of Peace Mausoleum at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, rural La Crosse. Harland L. Higley Sr.
CATARACT, Wis. Harland L. Higley Sr., 73, of Cataract died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse surrounded by family and friends.
He was born on July 24, 1935, in Dekorra Township, Colombia County, Wis., to Burton C. and Leah (Freeland) Higley. He grew up in Poynette, Wis., and graduated from Poynette High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a weapons specialist during the Korean Conflict. After the service, he came back to the Poynette area.
He married Joyce James on Oct. 13, 1958. He worked for the State of Wisconsin in the Department of Transportation for over 38 years. He took pride in his road construction.
They moved to the Sparta, Wis., area in 1965. He belonged to American Legion Post 439 in Melrose, Wis.; Cataract Sports-man Club, as past president; and hunter safety instructor, helping start the program in the 1970s. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed traveling out West.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Cataract; his children, Tim (Deb) Higley of Cataract, Korrina (Dennis) Craig of Bangor, Wis., Brenda (Barry) Clark of Cataract, Toni (Scott) Kvalheim of Sparta, Wis., Harland Jr. (Tami) Higley of Colby, Wis., and Penny Higley of Cataract; grandchildren, Zackery, Tatiana, Matthew, Adam, Madeline, Patrick, Samuel, Derek, Hannah, Allison, Emerson, Hannah, Elias, Wyatt, Dalton and Josie; six sisters; and two brothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Leah Higley; and a son, Burton Charles “Chuck” Higley.
Memorial services will be at noon Friday at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home in Sparta, Wis. ROODHOUSE, Ill. Gerald W. Killion, 64, of Roodhouse passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 9, 2008, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 14, 1943, in Lincoln, Ill., the son of William H. and Ruth B. Mason Killion. He married Judith E. Newingham on Jan. 25, 1964, in Roodhouse, and they later divorced. He married Elizabeth M. Von Arx on Oct. 15, 1981, in Imperial, Neb., and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, William Gregory (wife, Stacey) Killion of New Berlin, David Nick (wife, Brenn) Killion of Roodhouse and Jared Michael (wife, Jodi) Killion of White Hall, Ill.; two daughters, Jodie L. Conrad of Morton, Ill., and Jeanne M. (husband, Shawn) Varble of Eldred, Ill.; 13 grandchildren, Lauren Killion, Erin Killion, Olivia Killion, Will Killion, Nolan Killion, Matilyn Conrad, Ian Conrad, Allison Varble, Brant Varble, Cameryn Varble, Jude Varble, Jacob Killion and Lucas Killion; and two brothers, Larry Joe Killion of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and John P. Killion of Rockford, Ill.
Mr. Killion graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1961 and worked in the telephone industry all his life. He was operations manager at Killion Communications Consultants Inc. in Roodhouse. He was an active member of the community having served as a trustee of the Roodhouse Fire Protection District and a board member of the Fernwood Mausoleum Association. He was a member of White Hall Masonic Lodge 80 and the Eastern Star. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and spoiling his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and community.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Ill., with burial at Irish Grove Cemetery in Middletown. The family will meet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Cora Mae King
Cora Mae King, 79, of La Crosse died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse.
Cora was born Dec. 17, 1928, in La Crosse to Carey and Pearl (Welda) Towner. She worked as a nurse’s aid at Hillview Health Care Center for 15 years before retiring after 15 years with Nino’s Steak House. She was a member of the Nakomis Grandmother of the Year Club, was Nakomis Grandmother of the Year in 2000 and rode in the Oktoberfest parade.
She is survived by a daughter, Jane (Mark) Pretasky of La Crosse; three sons, Thomas (Mary) King of Kewskum, Wis., and Jerold (Vickie) King and Daniel (Diane) King, both of La Crosse; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, William (Helen) Towner of Onalaska, Wis., and Robert (Beverly) Towner of La Crosse; and a special friend, Vic Eide. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Dolores C. Medinger
Dolores C. Medinger, 86, of La Crosse passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Onalaska (Wis.) Care Center.
Dolores was born in Freeburg, Minn., on Oct. 9, 1921, to Bert and Marie (Noel) Harm. She graduated from La Crosse Logan Senior High School. Dolores marred Walter Gegenfurtner on June 7, 1941, and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1964. She then married LaVerne Medinger on Jan. 28, 1967, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1978.
Dolores is survived by a son, James (Linda) Gegenfurtner, of Onalaska, Wis.; four grandchildren, Laurie (John) McKenzie of Oshkosh, Wis., Connie (Scott) Hauser of Onalaska, Chris (Robert) Vieaux of Onalaska and James (Hedi) Gegenfurtner of Onalaska; 10 great-grandchildren, Nolan, David, Mara and Killian McKenzie, Allie and Zachary Hauser, Brooke and Taylor Vieaux and Megan and Tucker Gegenfurtner; a sister, Evelyn Carroll of Greenville, Pa.; a brother, Brian (Susanne) Harm of La Crescent, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Katherine (Lloyd) Bjergum of La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, George Carroll.

In keeping with Dolores’ wishes, she will be cremated. Private family services will be held in Marian Chapel of St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, La Crosse.

Grace M. Neumeier, 91, of La Crosse died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Rehab Center in La Crosse.
She was born in La Crosse on Sept. 10, 1916, to George and Mary (Liss) Weiland. She married Walter H. Neumeier on Aug. 21, 1945, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse.
She is survived by one sister, Gertrude Graff of La Crosse; and one nephew, Fred Graff of La Crosse. She is further survived by other relatives, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Neumeier, on Jan. 2, 1989; her parents; and two brothers, Frank and Alos.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 130 Losey Blvd. S., La Crosse. The Rev. David Olson will officiate, with burial in Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Thursday.

Douglas Ray Nordstrom, 46, of La Crosse died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
He was born in La Crosse on Jan. 2, 1962, to Oscar and Helen (Brush) Nordstrom.
Doug is survived by a daughter, Lacey of La Crosse; his mother of La Crosse; a sister, Shirley Lee of La Crosse; two brothers, Robert (Gloria) Nordstrom of La Crosse and David (Cindy) Nordstrom of
La Crosse; and two sisters-in-law, Penny and Ellen.
He was preceded in death by his father; three brothers, Ronald, Richard and Gerald; and a sister, Sharon.

Donald H. Starch
ONALASKA, Wis. Donald H. Starch, 92, of Onalaska passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Onalaska Care Center.
He was born in La Crosse on Aug. 15, 1915, to Benjamin and Clara (Witt) Starch. Donald graduated from Central High School and then attended University of Wisconsin-La Crose for two years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1951, Donald married Ruth Oldenburg in West Salem, Wis., and she preceded him in death.
Before his retirement, Donald was in the grocery business in the area for many years. He was a member the Onalaska Senior Citizens and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Holmen, Wis. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble.
Donald is survived by his loving daughters, Karen Gillmeister of La Crescent, Minn., and Judith (Terry) McDonald of Apple Valley, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1504 Holley St., Holmen, Wis. The Rev. Shaun Arndt will officiate, and burial will be in Onalaska Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Marie J. Weber
ONALASKA, Wis. Marie J. Weber, 86, of Onalaska died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
She was born Feb. 21, 1922. Her parents were Charles and Sadie (Finney) Smith. Marie was a 1940 graduate of La Crosse Logan High School. She married Jack Weber Sr. in 1941, and they divorced in 1955. Marie was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in La Crosse. She enjoyed watching Logan High School activities and was a member of the Logan Booster Club. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards with her lady friends, taking care of her lawn and watching her grandkids’ sporting events.
She is survived by five sons, Jack (Betty) Weber, Tom (Vicki) Weber, Steve (Rosa) Weber, Jim (Paulette) Weber and Peter (Julie) Weber; 10 grandchildren, Paul, John, David, Michael, Christina, Rory, Katie, Kelly, Nick and Noelle; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband, Jack Weber Sr.; her favorite aunt, Hazel; and a daughter-in-law, Yvonne.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 1022 Caledonia St., La Crosse. Pastor Doris Simpson will officiate. Private family committal services will be held at a later time in La Crosse’s Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Jeffrey S. Wynn
CALEDONIA/VICTORIA, Minn. Jeffrey S. Wynn, 57, of Caledonia and formerly of Victoria died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at his home in Hokah, Minn.
He was born Aug. 22, 1950, in Carver County, Minn., to Laurel and Janice (Sennes) Wynn. Jeff graduated from Chaska High School in Chaska, Minn., in 1968. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the USS Kittyhawk for two tours during Vietnam from 1968 until 1972. On June 8, 1974, Jeff married Pam Worman in Caledonia, and they later divorced in 2003. He was employed as an OTR truck driver for over 30 years until he was unable due to a disability. Jeff enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and playing cards.
Survivors include two daughters, Jessica (Shane) Halverson of Caledonia and Jamie Wynn (Bobby Ball) of La Crescent, Minn.; one son, Josh Wynn of Caledonia; three grandchildren, Isabella, Carlie and Addison; one sister, Linda Wynn of Victoria; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Tim and Brian Wynn.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia. The Rev. Elizabeth Stempinski will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Caledonia. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services.
