Fielder’s 3-run HR leads Brewers over Padres

.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Prince Fielder hit a three-run homer and Jeff Suppan pitched eight strong innings to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to their seventh straight victory, 5-2 over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

Fielder hit his 27th home run to break a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning.

Suppan (8-7) gave up four hits and two runs to win his third straight start.

The win allowed the Brewers to pull within three games of first-place Chicago in the NL Central. The Cubs were rained out at Atlanta on Tuesday.

Milwaukee increased its wild-card lead over St. Louis, which lost 4-3 at Florida, to four games.

Fielder hit the first pitch from Cha Seung Baek (4-6) an estimated 399 feet down the right-field line. Baek had issued a leadoff walk to J.J. Hardy and gave up a single to Gabe Kapler.

" I agree with 'mind of reason.' Looking at the stats this morning, the Brewers are the hottest team in baseball-- again. I hope Braun will be good to go by this weekend's games against LA, but in the meantime we have a true team of guys who will really step up. True, SD is not the best team, but a win is a win, especially on the road, and it keeps our momentum strong at a crucial time. I'm glad Suppan held it together for eight innings-- Sabathia and Sheets show that it CAN be done. THIS is exciting-- no drama, just love of the game. "

" Sweet! Since all this Packer/Favre drama started it has been so nice to focus my attention on a team that is really coming on strong. With Braun injured it is such a great sign to have other players stepping up and towing the load. This team is very exciting to watch and a pleasent change from the football drama. Go Crew! "

" Great way to start this road series, lets hope to for a Cub Sweep today! Oh, and you won't see truth today since we have won. Or maybe he will have some time to criticize Fielder's weight, but thats about all he's got :) "

" How does this go, "Truth"??

Did any of you Crew fans notice that the Twinks are NO LONGER in first place...and subsequently would NOT be in the playoffs if the season ended today!!! GO CREW! "
