Ready to farm: Two-year-old twins Eli and Owen Staggemeyer wore their John Deere attire to the fair. The boys like to spend time on the farm of their grandparents, Tim and Pam Schieber of Caledonia. Their mother, Audrey, said it’s possible Eli and Owen will show dairy calves when they are old enough, but it will all depend on whether the family is still farming.
Keeping things tidy: Sheep are easier to keep than beef
cattle, said Jack Miller, 12, of the Mayville Blue Ribbon Strivers. With sheep, you just rake the chips out of the aisle, feed and water them, he said. “You have to make sure the manure is cleaned out of the cows’ pens all the time.”
