Glen C. Beard
SPARTA, Wis. — Glen C. Beard, 89, of Sparta died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta.

Sharon Jean Caldwell

Sharon J. Caldwell, 70, of La Crosse passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.

Sharon was born in Lehigh, Iowa, on May 9, 1938, to Edward and Dorothy (Flannigan) Fisher.

Sharon settled in La Crosse and worked for Trane Co. for 32 years until retirement. She achieved all of her goals in life. Sharon was a caring and loving person. Her interests included spending time with her family, especially her son, and friends, reading, time in the great outdoors, and antique shopping.

Sharon is survived by her son, Jason (Gina) Caldwell; her daughter, Lori; a niece, Tara Fisher; brothers, Berry (Gerry), Mike and Russ Fisher; grandson, Josh Easterday; and many special nieces, nephews and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her daughter, Roxanne M. Easterday; her parents; and a great friend, Louis.

A memorial service will be held today, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave S., La Crosse. The Rev. David Olson will be the celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be held from noon to the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Ella M. Gran

CALEDONIA, Minn. — Ella M. Gran, 98, of Caledonia passed away Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.

She was born April 13, 1910, in Jefferson Township, Houston County, Minn., to John and Minnie (Pohlman) Schuldt. Ella attended school in Houston County, District 78. On Oct. 7, 1935, she married Arthur Gran in New Albin, Iowa. Together, they farmed in Jefferson Township until 1978, when they moved to Caledonia. On Jan. 7, 1979, Arthur preceded Ella in death. Ella was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years and served on various ladies groups. She was an active volunteer at Caledonia Lutheran Home (Caledonia Care and Rehab) and spent time caring for others in their own homes. Ella’s family considered it a blessing that she was able to live in her own home and be so active throughout her 98 years. She always enjoyed the company of her family and friends and was able to entertain friends on the day before she passed away. Ella will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include one daughter, Laurie (Robert) Baker of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Diane (Eric) Lewis of Knightstown, Ind., Mark (Susan) Baker of Wilkerson, Ind., and Auleen Baker (Anthony Kerzan) of Clayton, Ind.; six great-grandchildren, Davina, Heather, Kassondra, Emily, Spencer and Ethan; two great-great-grandchildren, Trent and Emily Rose; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, Ella was preceded in death by one sister, Frieda Krzebietke; and four brothers, Edwin, Erwin, William and George Schuldt.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. The Rev. Steven E. Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and also on Monday from noon until the time of service.

Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Hager

Margaret Hager, 50, of La Crosse died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. A full obituary will be provided by the Dickinson Family Funeral Home.

Jean M. Hengel

Jean M. Hengel, 73, of La Crosse died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at Hillview Healthcare Center, La Crosse. A Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, La Crosse. A complete obituary will be published Sunday.

Randy L. Hetrick

SPARTA, Wis. — Randy L. Hetrick, 46, of Sparta died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, in his home.

He was born May 28, 1962, in Sparta to Linda Hab-hegger of Sparta and William Hetrick of Lewistown, Pa.

He graduated from Sparta Senior High School in 1980. He worked at Pamida for a few years and then at Highlight Inc. He was currently employed at Foremost Farms Creamery in Sparta.

Randy loved to hunt, fish and ride his motorcycle.

He is survived by his mother, Linda Habhegger of Sparta; his father, William Hetrick of Lewistown, Pa.; one sister, Laurie Hetrick of Tomah, Wis.; his son, Justin Hollman of Iowa; special nephew, Cameron; maternal grandpa, Wallace R. Habhegger of Sparta; special aunts and uncles, Lillie Habhegger of Sparta, Janet Stodola of Barron, Wis., Clarence Habhegger of Sparta, and Edie and Wallace O. Habhegger of Sparta; many cousins; and special and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, with the Rev. Jeffrey Wm. Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.

Friends may call at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Online condolences may be offered at www.lanham-miller.com.

Marian K. Spika

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Marian K. Spika, R.N., died peacefully at home in Long Beach on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008.

She graduated in 1938 from St. Francis School of Nursing, La Crosse. After raising a family, she earned first a bachelor’s degree and then a master’s degree in public administration. She practiced and taught nursing for many years, retiring from Rancho Los Amigos Hospital. After retirement, she continued to work part time at Cerritos College of Norwalk, Calif., tutoring students in anatomy, physiology and other related subjects. In addition to her career, she personally provided complete home nursing care for her beloved husband, Rudy, as his health declined over the course of 17 years, until his peaceful death at home.

She is survived by daughters Stephanie Spika-Fox of Long Beach and Tasneem (Tam) Watts of Anaheim, Calif.; granddaughters, Heather and Devon Nelson, and Sameen and Maliha Ghazali; daughter-in-law, Karen Spika; and son-in-laws, David Nelson, Dennis Watts and Michael Fox.

She was preceded in death by husband, Rudolph (Rudy); and sons, Gregory L. Spika and Michael Spika.

Neptune Society is assisting the family with arrangements.

Edgar N. Wirtala

Edgar N. Wirtala, 68, of La Crosse died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse. Funeral services will be scheduled for the week of Aug. 24-30. A complete obituary will be provided by Dickinson Family Funeral Homes, La Crosse.
