" It saddens me to no end that these obviously young people will be one day running our country and making life changing choices for myself and my loved ones. Lord have mercy on us all.
Do your homework, think soberly before you post something that makes you appear truly uneducated. "

" Un-educated_citizen you are clueless. The 21 drinking age has made HUGE difference in the REDUCTION in number of DEAD 16-20 year olds. Look it up if you have any clue how to do that. Your comments clearly show your a wannabe drunk that has gotten tickets by cops in past. Waaah. Anyone I know in the military has no problem drinking alcohol before 21, but they know RESPONSIBILITY to their fellow soldiers means they need to stay sober, as you don't want to depend on drunk when bullets flying. " It's not the age that matters for when u can drink but I think there should be a way that if you are 18 you should be able to go to a bar with your friends.. via the old way (wristbands under 18) to be in the bar. I mean come on.. there is nothing for those who are 18-21 to do around here when all the fun. i.e Karaoke or whatever are all in the bars. Maybe give those a chance who are 18+ to be able to do something in this town or maybe we should open a "Juice Bar" for those who don't like to drink and are 18+
I disagree, don't lower the drinking age but lower the age for those who want to go out with friends who can't. Aren't there enough drunks out there already? "

" This argument should be about the "education" of young people regarding the responsibilities that go along with being of legal age to drink, no matter what the age limit is. If an education factor is included in a change of the law, then I am all in favor of lowering the age to 18. "

" Its funny, many adults of the legal age don't behave properly when they are drinking, why then should we expect 18 yr olds? On the same token, whats the difference, if a 15 yr old wanted to drink, they could and would, its not that difficult to get booze.
One last quick thought, if alcohol and drugs didn't exist, there would be far less crime, funny how we are in such a hurry to legalize both. "

" KM........you hit the nail on the head. I agree totally, especially when considering at the age of 18 you can get sent to another country and get a bullet in your a$% but can't partake in all adult activities. I don't think lowering the drinking age will make things better or worse. It's not the age that's the problem, those who are underage can always get alcohol it's how well we teach them to be responsible that matters, that should be our focus. "

" If at 18 a person can be drafted to fight in a foreign country and die, they should be able to have a drink. If a solider aged 18-20 can be responsible for other peoples lives and million dollar machines, one would think they should be responsible enough to handle a beer. The current law hasn't prevented or helped anything, in fact it has made things much worse. Ex. tickets, police harassment, booze cruises, carry outs, binge drinking..the list goes on. "

" You don't have to be a college professor or president to know that college students will drink whether its legal or not. Our current policies only encourage the students to drink in the dorms and on campus parties where there is NO supervision! Prohibition NEVER works, in fact, it often encourages the youths to become law breakers! Today's savy internet students can brew their own or grow their own~ what are you going to do about that? More ineffective laws? "

" Hey Earl. It's not a new drinking age of 19 it's the old drinking age of 19 and back in the seventies it was 18, but we were held responsible for our actions back then and parents could punish kids for their actions.
Now that is not the case, WE have to protect the stupid. "

" It would be about time that the drinking age is lowered. This law was passed under great pressure from MADD. It goes to show you what great power this lobby has. If more focus was placed on drinking and driving, it would go a long way to reduce deaths. I am not saying I am in favor of lowered limits for a OWI just increaced enforcement of the laws already in place. How much would drinking and driving decrease if random roadblocks were allowed to placed? I also do not think that 18 is the right age. There are way too many high school seniors that are 18 to allow drinking then. The new drinking age should be 19. Then you would eliminate the high school problem, exept in rare occasions, while eliminating the outragous law making adults in this country wait until they're 21st bithday to buy a beer. "

" Once you turn 18, you are a legal adult. So why shouldn't you be able to enjoy all the freedoms of being an adult...like legally consuming alcohol. I think other factors will need to be considered. Maybe making bar time earlier statewide? Is there really any good reason to drink until 2 am? "

" I would like to see some evidence either that lowering the drinking age would improve the situation on campuses or that raising it has caused more injury and death. It is called evidence based decision making, risk-benefit analysis, or being rational.
One could also argue that drunk driving is more than an 18-21 problem and if we nailed the drunk drivers harder we could save more lives than the addtional deaths that would result from lowering the drinking age. "

" No doubt MADD will chime in with their "more people will die in crashes" statements with a lower drinking age. It makes no sense to continue to send 18 year olds to war, or allow 18 year olds to vote. On one hand you can waive 14 year olds to into adult court. I'm not saying 14 year olds should be allowed to drink but 21 is such an obsolete age it accomplishes nothing. Some 50 year olds aren't responsible enough to drink. "
