The 19-year-old Drugan carded a second consecutive even-par 71 on Tuesday for a 142, two-day total. He’s in a six-way tie for sixth place.
Ryan Helminen of Appleton, Wis., leads the tournament with a 137 total after Tuesday’s 5-under 66 round.
It’s a sure bet that Helminen, Drugan and other frontrunners will be watching the leader board during the final 36 holes today.
“Anything can happen,” said Drugan, from Holmen, Wis., and a sophomore at Winona State University in Winona, Minn. “I want to go under par my first 18 holes. Pars won’t win it. I have to make some birdies.”
Mark Schneider, former pro at The Golf Club at Cedar Creek in Onalaska, Wis., is tied for 25th place at 72-74-146. Mason Milner, from Onalaska, shares 36th place with Nicholas Byom, formerly of Blair, Wis. Milner shot 74 on Tuesday for a 147 two-day total. Byom shot 73.
However, three other players with La Crosse ties failed to make the final 36-hole cut.
Jeff Kaiser, former University of Wisconsin star who turned pro earlier this summer, finished at 10 over par 152 as did Joe DeRosa, assistant pro at the La Crosse Country Club in Onalaska, Wis.
John Schneider, head pro at Racine Country Club and former head pro and general manager at Cedar Creek, finished at 13 over par.
