Update: Obama to campaign in Eau Claire on Sunday

.
MADISON — Sen. Barack Obama plans to stop Sunday in western Wisconsin, an area where he and his rival are competing hard for independent voters.

The soon-to-be Democratic presidential nominee's visit to Eau Claire is part of a tour through several battleground states before next week's Democratic National Convention. Other stops include Iowa, Missouri and Montana. Obama will arrive in Denver on Thursday to accept the party's nomination.
The campaign released no details about the time or location of the event in Eau Claire. Also unclear was whether Obama would be joined by his running mate, who he is expected to announce within days.

Obama is expected to talk about his plans to change how Washington works and to stimulate the economy to help middle-class families, campaign spokesman Matt Lehrich said.

The stop will be Obama's second in Wisconsin during the general election. His last visit was in the northeastern city of Kaukauna in June.

Since then, his Republican rival, Arizona Sen. John McCain, has visited the state twice and cut into Obama's once commanding double-digit lead. Strategists from both parties say the race is getting much closer in a state where the 2000 and 2004 Democratic presidential candidates won by less than 1 percent of the vote.

Both campaigns are working hard to connect with swing voters in western Wisconsin cities such as Eau Claire, La Crosse and Hudson, where McCain held a forum with female business leaders last month.

Visits to the area also can win favorable media coverage in neighboring Minnesota, where the race also appears to be tightening as Republicans prepare to gather for their convention in St. Paul.

Eau Claire County has tilted Democratic in recent elections. Democrat John Kerry earned about 54 percent of the vote there in 2004. Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle did better than that in his re-election bid in 2006, when Democrats also unseated three Republican state lawmakers.

Katy Phillips, chair of the Eau Claire County Democratic Party, called the economy the top issue for voters in the area, followed by health care and the war in Iraq. Obama has a chance to win rural voters who favored President Bush in previous elections but are upset with the direction of the country, she said.

" Barrack Hussein Obama was sued in Philadelphia Federal Court today on grounds he is constitutionally ineligible to run for and hold the office of President of the United States. In today's lawsuit it was maintained that Obama isn't a natural born U.S. citizen or that, if he ever was, he lost his citizenship when he was adopted in Indonesia. The senator's use of a birth certificate from the state of Hawaii was verified as a forgery by three independent document forensic experts and actually belonged to Maya Kasandra Soetoro, Sen. Obama's half-sister. "

" Washington's broken, we're worse off than we were 4 years ago. These are words from McCain's television ad. So we're supposed to vote the same party into office after they are admitting that said party is useless? Nonsense. "

" Dear sad sally,

I am responding to audifan08, who previously referred to Michelle Obama as hateful and "a stereotrpical 'black' woman," among other things. Oh, yes, and we must repeat the "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" mantra to enhance the fact that he is not white... Oh, and let's still make fun of France-- ouch, that hurts! These remarks SPEW racism and sexism, but you can't see that because you have no racist or sexist bone in your body. And as long as you brought religion into the conversation, please clarify your statement about "my God, Obama..." "

" The media is taking notice: There's trouble in paradise. Cancel the coronation. Send back the commemorative medals. Put those Yes We Can T-shirts up on eBay. Keep the Change. Barack Obama's historic procession to the American presidency has been rudely interrupted. The global healing he promised is in jeopardy. If you're prone to emotional breakdown, you might want to take a seat before I say this. He might not win. How can it be, you ask? Didn't we see him just last month speaking to 200,000 adoring Germans in Berlin? Didn't he get the red carpet treatment in France - France of all places? "

" Greenlite; I couldn't agree with you more. The media has made Obama out to be this world changing celebrity and I agree with you that his TRUE colors are slowly coming through while the spread between Obama and McCain narrows. Nobody has thrown the "race card" around more during the past several months than the Obamas. I pray to God that man is not elected, I truely fear what will happen to this country. And as for the "Al Gore" comment, like the real Al Gore...it made NO SENSE AT ALL. "

" I would like to know what kind of game Big "O" is playing with the Veep selection? Is this the way he plans on running his Admin. if he's elected? I thought he was supposed to be upfront and forthright witht the American People. Will his Admin. (if elected) be one big publicity stunt? We need a leader not a celebrity who humors the media. "

" Hey seabiscuit...You have some nerve with your first sentence: You have made it perfectly clear on this blog that you are sexist AND racist-- a typical Republican. Are you one of the wonderful democrats that is goint to "unite" our country with your spewing of hateful discusting remarks like that? I am a PROUD CARD CARRYING REPUBLICIAN AND ULTRA CONSERTATIVE, and you won't find a sexist or racist bone in my body. You better pray to your God Obama tongiht for forgiveness for that sickening remark. "

" seabicuit: I like the way you Dems always play the "race and sexist" card when you can't face the truth. It appears to me that Audiofan is pointing out Michelle O's apearant leaning towards racism. Or, do you subscribe to the popular progressive dem (socialist) thought that minorities can't be racist? I believe that Obama's true colors are begining to show, and that more and more Americans are beginning to see through the facade. "

" audifan08:

You have made it perfectly clear on this blog that you are sexist AND racist-- a typical Republican. Again, be careful of your "low class attacks" that you claim have been made against Cindy McCain. You and your party are nothing but hypocrites. By the way, how did Mrs. McCain do in the contests at the Sturgis motorcycle rally that her husband wanted her to be a part of? Talk about low class. "

" Cindy McCain has devoted her whole life to helping children, can Rickey say the same? Remarkable women. May God bless her and the rest of the McCain family.

Michelle O? Compared to the eloquent grace of Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush and yes, even Rosalind Carter, she portrays herself as just another angry black harridan who spits in the face of the nation that made her rich, famous and prestigious. "

audifan08 wrote on Aug 21, 2008 2:16 PM:

" Will Michell be attending rally?

Michelle Obama is the stereotypical 'angry' Black woman who happens to have advanced degrees from prestigious universities, is married to a U.S. senator and makes more money in one year than most Americans make in five...but never mind all that.

Michelle obliquely sneers at most people and although the media and her handlers try to hide it, her arrogance and disdain for others, especially Whites, seeps out and causes big-time damage to Barack's superficial campaign based on image and little more...so they've had to limit her appearance and basically gag her.

Michelle Obama is a huge detriment to Barack Obama's campaign and gives just the barest hint of the kind of administration we'll get if the American people can be fooled and manipulated into electing Barack Hussein Obama.

God help America. "
